I have never raced a dirt bike before as i know many of you haven't. Any one know what to expect for tech? im bringing 2 bikes a heavily modified yz250 and a half stock cr250 neither have a kill switch as i set my bikes up to not idle.
What bike am i better off racing? im more comfortable on the CR but the YZ has REP suspension set up for racing harder pack tracks and has a bit more power up top. the honda makes more down low. Any input?
also camping, im planing on camping there with DanK i think ima sleep in the truck or trailer will they let me light a fire? is there food near by or should i bring some?
Any one need a ride up we have room for a couple more bikes in the truck/trailer. we are coming from NH.
not having a kill switch might be an issue, i'd send off an email on that to be sure. i'd go with whatever bike you are most comfortable on, based on what you said, the CR is probably best. The only hardpack you will find at southwick is in the pits. not sure about camping/fires etc.

ya, no kill switch usually doesn't fly but I am not sure how they will run this since its not nemx/nesc etc...
Honestly, if the honda is softer but not TOO soft I would ride that bike...low/mid power will also be nice for not bogging in the deep berms.

Yah, i was leaning to the honda, just seems strange to race the "woods" bike and sit the "race" bike but i like it better and hopefully it will be best there. Can i practice both bikes?
I would def. send an email to dave and ask about the kill switch and riding both bikes, I'm sure you can practice both if you want.

This reminds me... practice is sunday, race is saturday. Anyone know if there will be any AM practice at all? If not bring the popcorn for Never Ever, a ton of people getting on a MX course for the first time EVER in an actual race.
By kill switch are we talking tether? I really hope we don't need those, I'm still trying to sort out more than enough other crap on my bike. Looking forward to hearing Dave's email response on this.
button up on your handlebar just like a stock bike that just kills the motor.

Oh, cool. I've got one of those. Of course, that's the least of my concerns getting ready, but at least I don't need to add something else to the list. Speaking of the list... I need to find my riding pants. I'm guessing jeans are frowned upon.
I hope there is a shop bringing a trailer with parts, i have no numbers, I have a switch i will bring and mount to the bike i ride if i need it, god knows what else might pop up. I hope i left the wiring in tack, just don't remember. good thing i took thurs and fri off to go over this stuff.
Huh... numbers. From what I hear a lot of people are just using black electrical tape. That's not going to work on my bike... Prob should have thought of that yesterday & got some @ S&C. Oh well... I'll find something, even if it's just colored electrical tape.
Yea I haven't even started scrambling yet and my trailer is still parked at my rents house... ugh. Hopefully I'll have enough time Wed/Thur this week.
What time are you guys headed down there on Fri?
No idea when we're heading down. I think at least part of the deciding factor will be when we have the bikes all ready. I just remembered I forgot to order black # plates for my bike. Shit. Worst case: rattle can.
Any Kawi shop employees heading to this? Can you get black # plates, front and right side/airbox cover, for an 02 KX125 by then?
I know I can get green plates locally, it's more if I am able to get the black ones in time to match everything else. The one # plate I do have is black, so if I use tape I'll just have to get colored tape for the black plastics. Even if I end up w/ colored plates I'll prob rattlecan them black so the bike almost sort of looks like it kinda matches.
you have no front or right plastics? or just not black? just get white numbers and use black duct tape if you want...or all tape

agreed, go with green![]()

I have no right side # plate or front # plate at all. Everything else is black, and I like the black look more, so I wanted to keep w/ the black (plus I don't want to buy a new tank and crap to go all green).
I kept trying to find them locally, everyone stocks green but nobody stocks black. I meant to order them and forgot, now I'm crunched on time so I'll end up having to buy green ones and rattlecan them to match the rest of the bike. After that, colored #'s, either from a vendor @ the track, from a local shop or worst case just colored tape. unless whereever I get them sells colored white # plate stickers to go over the plates like S&C does?
Even if I got all new plates (since I'm missing 2 of the 3 anyway) I'd still have black radiator shrouds, tank, and fenders. I don't want to replace all that crap...
And yeah, I've been riding without those plates forever. Sand hasn't been an issue with the exposed filter (granted I have not been riding Southwick) and I actually like the look of the front with no plate, so I never cared too much until now. I will def. need them for this event though.

Well, I have had my share of frankenbikes, I suppose I could go with the green/black mismatch. If I can find stick-on white # plates to put black #’s over like I have on my racebike (from S&C) I’ll leave the green for sure, if not, we’ll see. Shit, if Seth rode a mismatch it has to be good enough for me.
I think our point is it can still match aha. Hell my new yz came with blue fenders and white plates/black airbox.

yeah i'd stop worrying so much about the color of the plates and start figuring a way to install a seat belt.
