Yeah guys you need to relax haha. Nobody at the races this weekend is going to be crazy asshole competitive. It's all for fun. Relax and do what you do. It's actually a perfect weekend to try MX racing if you've never done it before.

Can't speak for the others but I'm plenty relaxed.... I just have zero idea of what to expect or what I'm doing..... as you note, this event is precisely WHY I'm trying MX... I sure as hell don't wanna try doing that for "real" racing being this much of a newb to it. Still doesn't change the fact I'm on a bike completely unsuited to MX riding.... will be doing it for the first time... and have zero spares.
Feels quite a lot like when I took Penguin, on a completely stock (suspension, pegs, etc.) Honda Hawk. Only that ended poorly when the stock peg caught the curb on the inside of T6 (or just bottomed itself out)...
So, I'm on a woods bike as well, and I bet your Beta is sprung better with more damping than my 92 WR250ZD was in 'dirt' trim. Treat the course like a woods course at first, don't try jumping just roll the track to learn where everything is, and more importantly what is AFTER each jump face. Some are tabletops, carry a little speed up, feel the bike come up under you and get a lil air followed by a light landing. Easy! Some are just a single jump in the middle of some track, carry a little speed up, spend more time in the air, bike will suck it up when you land and keep going. With a tall enough jump you may even bottom the suspension. Don't roll off the gas as you come off the jump face, and a little gas as you land will help soften the landing.
Some jumps have big pits after them, with an immediate abutting jump face. AKA a double.
I can't help you with those, I've only cleared one once on a pitbike after spending half the day psyching myself up for it, never to repeat. The challenge here is there is a bracket of speeds between too slow and too fast where the bad thing happens and you slam into the following jump face. I roll these.

this is a total hack/party weekend, try to stay on the mellow... or drunk... or both. but i understand not being familiar. just treat it like a woods ride on a manicured loop with a gate you need to start from
yes, handguards will be a preference thing. ever since i went over the bars with a hand staying behind, i remove them for track. they just feel more in the way TO ME.
there will be vendors and tons of ultra cool peeps to possibly buy or borrow spares from. dont sweat it. the biggest frustration really is knowing when the fuck your moto is coming up. day moves quick.

Its a damn cool feature of nesr that so many moto newbs are getting the inspiration and support to try it out this weekend! Looks like great weather, too.
As far as stress/prep, what smutty said. Its a different world from lrrs...crazy lines, intentionally stuffing people AT the apex, block passing, roosting guys, etc, not only not frowned upon, but expected! the only thing frowned upon is whining about it later LOL. None of thats gonna happen anyway, though, in the back of the pack or unless you are really fighting for position so no need for newbs to worry about it. Once the fast guys get away, itll be like practice and the motos are usually short enough that lapping isnt a factor.
Just bring bike, gear, gas, water, and credit card. Every part imaginable should be there to buy or borrow, if necessary.
Any musicians in the group to bring an acoustic guitar or something for late nite jammin?

I guess that's why I posted the thing about a shady area for a tent...that looks like desert that will be wall to wall with vehicles right next to the start line. Not sure what good camping spots are available at nhmx, if any. I'm shooting for around 1:00 arrival, probably ask at the gate about spots. If I have to set camp away from where everyone else is, that's cool...if the first dude can find a shady grove big enough for all of us, even better...93 forecast tomorrow
don't think I've ever seen a shady grove at an MX track but I like that planI'll relay to Tim but I believe Smutty is caravaning with him so he'll see this.
