I have an oil filter question...? its a 1999 xr250r
Which way is out? I went to remove it last night and the plate was stuck so as i turned around to get a prying device it popped off and the filter and cap fell into my drip pan.
I'm pretty sure its rubber/hole side out, but wanted to make sure:

that to me looks like oil flows in from the bottom and is forced into the filter and thru the hole facing out, then into the orafice in the cover and then thru the side of the crankcase.
Look at the cover. If the cover has a port to mate with the hole in the filter, and a drilled passage from there to match one on the cases, there's your answer. Looking at the parts diagram you can see the spring goes in first, then the filter, then a sealing gasket, confirming that theory.
yes the cover has the hole, drilled passage. its actually the passage with the black arrow coming out of the filter.
thats what i thought but a guy on thumpertalk was saying he thought it was backwards.
