Folks,
I know you're all chomping at the bit to get some info on what we can do for our annual trip down south to ride while it's still cold up here. I have been talking with the people at VIR and Cornerspeed and tried to come up with some ideas.
VIR is getting more and more away from motorcycle events. The facility is almost impossible to get. It is expensive, nearly impossible to get two days together and nothing can be finalized as they may have to move people around for other (more important) clients (BMW, Rolex, CIA etc etc).
I have an idea that I would like to run by you guys to see if this is something that would be viable:
Carolina Motorsports Park

This track is absolutely flat (no elevation changes), and is a mixture of point and shoot straights and sweeping curves. It has virtually NO facilities (it does have bathrooms though). To me it looks like fun and it would be something different for us.
The major upsides to using this facility is that we could get it for an entire weekend at a pretty cheap rate (to be determined, but think $300' ish per person for the weekend if we can get 50-60 riders there). Riders who have not got a race license or done Cornerspeed school before (or want to get their race creditation)would be paying a bit more, maybe $500 for the weekend. Still a very good deal.
The track is 2.235 miles long. it is in Camden, SC. it would be an extra couple of hour's drive I believe.

We would have camping rights overnight. The nearest town with a few hotels is 15 miles away (similar to VIR).

Let me have your opinions. Please limit you answers to a yes or no a this time. Simple questions will be ok, but don't get into seep discussions at this time.
Thanks

Forgot to mention, dates would be Sat/Sun 7th/8th April, 2007
Yes.
If you could elaborate on what would be needed for licensure - i.e., I did a Cornerspeed school in '04 but do not have a race license - that would be awesome.
Jeeeesus bloody christ.
Just heard back from CMP. No weekend available until July 2007. Looking for a couple of weekdays in April. July would be crazy there, 100 degrees plus.

Weather. If you want to freeze your nuts off we can do one of those. Unfortunately, if you want to get a 50 degree plus event, you have to go south.Originally posted by Doc

I'd rather do canada later in the season when it's warm. I don't think i'd go for this one, the drive to VIR is hell enough. I might race there though so it's kinda worth it.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Yep, we can do canada or another track later in the season, but I like to get the season started early with a nice early trackday. Plus I like the road trip, so i'm really not bothered by the distance.

i'd be interested if the price was fairly cheap for two days

If its a 3 day event I'm in, if its 2 days I'm probably out (too far).
OK, looks like this one is a no-go too. Basically, we could chance it in February but we risk 30 degrees if we do that.
I'm back on the VIR trail and looking for a way around this so we get some track time there. Stay tuned.
I'm locking this thread for now.
