Oxx didn't you used to CR for those guys?
Either way it's good read and reminder to keep your wits about you during trackdays. It's not a race.

you know....when i worked for Ted he ran a great show. he was the epitome of safety. im actually surprised that this happened and that there are other stories. i cant take anything Davie Stone says seriously because he has a boner for Ted.
im glad everyone is OK and im disappointed in Ted if thats the whole story. as we know..there are 2 sides and the truth is in the middle somewhere but the bottom line is its the passers job to get it done safely.
im also very shocked that he was doing 140...i didnt really think that was possible on that short track...especially after the chicane.
like i said 2 sides to the story...kind of like the Thierry thing last year at the BoMo event where he "took out" someone.
i still like Ted, whether he rides like a jack ass or not.

well...curiosity got the best of me and i picked up the phone and called Ted.
as i thought...the whole 140mph thing is bullshit. its just plain impossible to reach that speed on that track. its a fucking bullring. the incident happened before the chicane. the turn before that is a Laguna T11esque type turn (like a 70 degree turn that puts you into 2nd gear) and its maaaybe 100 yards from the chicane. im guessing 130mph tops on a 1K with someone who knows what they are doing. with this kids math Ted would have had to have been going 180+.....
Ted side is as follows:
kid was riding in the middle of the track.
Ted was overtaking on the left
just before the braking zone kid does the swing left to go right thing
Ted is committed with no where to go
Teds knee puck clips the kids clip on and all hell breaks loose
Ted fixed the kids bike...thats more than anyone would do. the kid tried to tell Ted what brand of parts to put on and wanted new gloves, leathers and gear. Ted gave him a pair of gloves that were worn maybe 10 times and the gave em back. maybe im biased...but i really dont care

Good read indeed...many lessons available.

Muhammad Ali.
don't go draggin that into this. From what I understand Thierry felt really bad about what happened and Mondo wasn't the least bit angry. The two sides were from the 2 involved and others not involved who felt the need to talk shit about it.
This AZ thing sounds a bit different with both involved parties telling differing stories. but you're right the truth is probably somewhere in between.

Good read for sure, Alex. Funny how one person's perception, especially when he's foggy about what happened, can make people think one thing of a person.
Glad Oxx called Ted and got the other side of the story. I agree that the drift left to set up for a right-hander seems a bit suspicious to me.
As for bringing the other incident back into the light, it's water under the bridge. In that instance, shit happens.
He brought it up because it shows that sometimes shit just happens and it's not always intentional or created by hazardous or over aggressive riding. Sometimes it's just shit luck.
Anyway, something tells me here that the person that got hit isn't a mind reader (so he can't know what was going through Ted's mind as it was happening) & doesn't have slow-mo-instant-replay from every angle on this incident... thus even he really doesn't have any idea as to WHY the accident really happened. All he knows is that he got put on the ground.
At one extreme, it could have been 100% his fault because he was riding erratically and Ted couldn't avoid him.
On the other extreme, Ted could have been riding like an irresponsible mad man & took the guy out.
The only people that could even POSSIBLY know for sure what really happened is Ted himself & maybe a couple of witnesses that saw it happen. Period. But it's likely a mix of the two extremes above.
And as someone who's been put on the ground myself by other riders on more than one occasion, I can kinda identify with Mondo & this dude on WERA.
Mondo was the epitome of a good sport...
This dude on WERA? I dunno... whatever. Sucks all around.

ps, here's the other side of the story
http://forums.13x.com/showpost.php?p...&postcount=154
If you ask me, regardless of how it actually went down, the whole thing would have been avoided if the rider in front left enough room on the outside for a faster rider to overtake.
I am NOT saying it's purely the downed riders fault. It's also the overtaking rider responsible for making a safe pass.
But ultimately, it's everyone's responsibility on the track to ride predictably and keep a healthy margin of safety. Obviously that didn't happen here.

So you don't believe this kids story but you believe Teds side? Why? Because your friends with Ted?
And the kid telling everyone he was going 140...... you seem to shoot his whole story down because he wasn't, and you seem to harp on this a bit. He was probably confused. I don't care either way to be honest but I just found it funny how you didn't believe him becuase it was only one side yet now you have the "truth" after talking to your friend Ted?? I find it kinda sad that alot of people on that board kinda shit on the kid and didn't give him much sympathy after having been hit. I obviously don't know anything about riding track or the rules so I may be off base with my opinion. I think the important thing is others maybe learning a thing or two after reading the whole story..
Edit** I'm also not a big fan of he said she said stories on the internet either. I will say it was a stand up thing for Ted to fix his bike up. Obviously if he did that he must have felt he was to blame..unless he's just a super nice guy..again, I don't know

I also think control riders should be held to a higher standard. They should be anticipating everyones next move , especially when they have new people doing trackdays who have never been on the track, or very little track time. To me, again I have no trackday experience, wouldn't it make more sense to pass on a straight? Did he really need to pass there at that spot? Again..higher standard

if someone is obviously feeding me bullshit (going 140mph) it makes me suspicious of the rest of his story. i didnt say that i beleived one story over the other. i said the truth is somewhere in the middle.
am i biased? maybe. im not gonna let someone bash a friend of mine on a forum without getting all the facts though

the he said she said thing is BS so I won't comment on the incident itself.
I give the guy a ridiculous amount of credit for fixing the guys bike and giving him a new(ish) pair of gloves to try and make him happy though. That's unheard of... I've always had the "just say sorry, shit happens" mindset and nothing more. The fact that the both parties said the bike was fixed, and the guy who went down said it wasn't fixed to perfection and was still unsatisfied with the gesture leads me believe this Ted dude is at least being more mature about the whole thing.
But yea, don't be a bonehead on the track. That shit isn't fun.

Not if there bike is faster than yours. ;D Try as I might, I pass em coming out of 12 and they pin it down the front straight and lose em... Just to pick them back up in one.
I find it easier to pass going into 6 and 9, they all get out of the gas at the crest of the hills.![]()
