Moto D makes some carbon and Kevlar ones that are like $100.
Probably worth getting even though the tanks don't explode anymore. Even with frame sliders, I would end up with a dented tank, broken windshield, broken clip on bar and rashed plastics. No way around it with an r6.

Heres my quick experience with the R6 tank. Mine was an 07 so it had the wide tank. I started with a set of traxxion stick on sliders. They lasted one crash. It was a pretty hard one. I highsided off of 4. When the bike came down it pushed the slider into the take and then ripped it off. When I finally stopped I looked down track to see fuel pouring out of the tank. Luckily nothing caught fire.
The ETI sliders lasted the rest of the bikes racing career with me and then two other people. I was not easy on the bike and neither was anyone else that rode it. They were also repairable which was a nice touch. They also blended well into the bike when painted.
Now back on topic. I did and would use woodcraft sliders on my bikes again.
I should note that I too use woodcraft frame sliders.
Replacement pucks are cheap and easy to replace. The profile doesn't stick out too far like some of the other ones I've seen. And they bolt to the engine mounts. If you go with the kind that have a relocation bracket, they are guaranteed to snap off in a crash.

2 similar (no crash is the same) examples for wide inline 4 bikes.
(example 1 - no frame sliders) T1 - I lowsided at the orange box 2 seasons ago at full pace. My gsxr600 slid on its side, hit the infield (caught 6 inches of air when transitioning from asphalt to grass) and kept sliding on the same side. Minimal scrapes to bodywork, raced next race.
(example 1 - with frame sliders) T1 - I was 2 bike lengths behind #897, watched his front tuck just after the orange box. His r1 slid on the asphalt then cartwheeled itself into a yard sale when it transitioned from the asphalt to the grass. $1,000+ in damage and I do not believe the bike raced again that round.
(example 2 - no frame sliders) T11 - I was 2ft off the rear wheel of #236 going through t11. His front tucked and then mine did the same. Bikes and riders both slid same speed and trajectory. My r6 slid on its left side, hit the curb (hopped a few inches up) and continued to slide on its left side in the grass till it stopped. Minimal scrapes to bodywork and a small ding in the tank. Straightened forks for good measure and made the next race.
(example 2 - with frame sliders) T11 - #236 lowsided and the bike slid on its side until making contact with the curb. The bike then cartwheeled itself and tumbled through the air launching ecu, power commander, etc. Significant damage to the bike and I do not believe it raced again that weekend.
I started this out by saying no 2 crashes are the same and repeat it again. The t11 incident was as close to being the same variables as I can ever remember seeing or being involved in. The bike without sliders came out relatively unscathed. The bike with sliders was a lot worse off. I do believe the sliders caused it to tumble when they made contact with the curb.
Once upon a time in CA where track edge typically meets sand (desert) I was told you're crazy if you run normal sliders. I was told to grind them down to behind the fairings. I took them off and have never looked back.
I do standard sliders on a street bike make a lot of sense. I do believe "short" sliders on a race bike can make sense. It's all a roll of the dice in my head.
This is all with regards to inline 4 bikes and is in no way a solid stance. Just what I've seen and experienced. I hope you find this helpful.

Very helpful. More evidence "against" the sliders if we were to take it that way, hmm. I repeatedly hear they are most effective in low speed tip-overs, which I'm a lot less worried about. Since this bike will be 90% street time, I'm also thinking about the terrible road conditions around here - aside from the highway there is no such thing as smooth pavement. Of course, there's insurance for that kind of thing.

Not only frame sliders protect the bike but what about your leg underneath the bike? It can create a gap between the ground and the bike hence reducing your leg taking the full load. I think I experienced this my last crash and thankful of it.

When my MV hit the deck the slider bolt sheared from the engine case. By the frame was ok. Fuck those things.
