I got the bike ready this weekend including the saftey wiring (so proud of myself!!) but the last thing I need to do is change the coolant...
What is it we are supposed to run? I was gonna pick up some Engine Ice but I checked cornerspeed's site and it says "water only" or "approved racing coolant only" but does not say what is 'approved'. It then goes on to say how to change the coolant for 'water only' and says to add Water wetter.....
So, what exactly am I doing?????
Cornerspeed Coolant Page
engine ice is propylene glycol based. So i don't think they'll want you using that. Go for Water and water wetter. Depending on the weather might want to just leave it dry till you get down there and then fill it up.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Prop glycol (engine ice) is fine. I used engine ice last year. I also just put it in manny's bike ready for VIR.
derek
That's what I'm using.
cornerspeed website says nothing glycol based?Originally posted by Degsy

Found this on the Cornerspeed Forums:

Q: You are saying that "Engine Ice" is allowed at Cornerspeed events??
Answered by Instuctor Doyle: Yes, "Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant TM meets all the requirements of ASTM D5216 (Propylene Glycol Base Engine Coolant)", but I would prefer everyone use water and water wetter.
Again in this thread an instuctor confims that Engine Ice is approved.
Can I change my shit at VIR? Anti-Freeze is still in my bike, and I aint got my bike no more?

Don't use water wetter and take your bike down to VIR in the back of a pickup truck. It COULD get down to freezing levels again, and the added windchill over the radiator as you drive at 70mph could freeze the water in the radiator and burst it.Originally posted by bigred875
I have used water wetter
If you want to use water-wetter, change the coolant down there.
When they say no glycol-based coolants, they mean ethylene-glycol (slippy stuff), no propylene-glycol (non slippy)
derek

derekdidnt think it was supped to be that cold..lol sorry for the bad advice....
No, not bad advice, just that there is a slight possibility that the temps could get to freezing on the way down, with wind chill. Unlikely, but not worth risking it.Originally posted by bigred875

BTW, 80 degrees at VIR last weekend.
When are you all headed down there again'?

that's about as accurate as pissing in the wind to see if it's gonna rain in 3 days!!
i agree don't listen to the long range forcast, but I also don't want to be flushing my system every night
never a bad thing to plan ahead
