This post is not to whine or complain but rather to gather some helpful info on how i should proceed.
The point i am at now is i want nothing to do with this bike anymore. In the three months i have had it, i have lost every drop of confidence i had since the second day i have had it. As of right now, my service light is back on and that is my last straw.
My question to you is, how should i proceed? I have sent two emails to Aprilia displaying my level of satisfaction and have gotten no reply. I have found the customer help line for the US. The dealer is about 500 miles from where i currently live. Do I bring it back to the dealer and see what the service light is on for? Try calling the helpline to talk to someone regarding a buy back? or just try to sell it outright?
Bike doesn't qualify for a lemon law so that wont be an answer.
from what i have seen, there is no real interest in this bike at all in terms of a used market. And my riding season is ticking down to nothing so i really dont want to wait to try to sell this.
would i be able to trade it in at the dealership and hope they give me a somewhat decent trade in? i know id be loosing a few thousand on this deal but at this point, i don't have a bike i want to ride. what would you do?

What's up with Italian bikes man?

You're gonna get killed on the trade. That I can tell you for sure. The bike is worth less than 2/3 of what you originally paid. If you're prepaired to take that hit, then by all means trade it in.
My advise it to contact the OWNER of the dealership where it was purchased. Not the salesman or the manager. Explain the situation, politely explain your frustration, let him know that you want to buy another bike and just want to be happy with the experience. Remember, it is not the dealerships fault. Let him know that you're looking for his help. It's generally in the owner's best interest in making happy customers. The owner will generally absorb some of the huge initial depreciation in a new machine. It's in the salesman's and manager's best interest to generate big profits. Talk to the owner.

i know ill take a huge hit thats why i really wish i had more options (legal ones). The person helping me through everything is the part owner of the dealership and has been there every step of the way so far. problem is i dont want anything else they sell at the dealer. well i do i just cant afford any of it (duc, ape and guzzi). i cant see them giving me a good deal just so i can spend my money elsewhere.

Wait a minute, Catch...
What exactly is wrong? A sensor light only? That could be just
a bad sensor. That doesn't mean anything is broken.
Does it run ok?

well akira, the dash has the service light on which blocks out the other dash info. i looked for codes last night but got nothing. bike seems to run fine now, but its not the point. At this point, i have no confidence to take this thing anywhere or pushing my limits on it. no one should have to worry about their bike breaking down everytime they go out.

You should get a Honda. Might I suggest an RC51. They are great and really reliable. Seriously though. Take it into the City on the weekend or drop it off a truck.

first year model blues, they suck. every company has bugs to work out of a first year model. doesn't help you i know. not much you can do that hasn't been mentioned.
do you have tow coverage and a cell phone? if you do i'd ride it and keep bringing it in till its fixed. i'd wait till next spring and try and unload it.
Absolutly the manufacturer has responsibility. They have a warranty. But no warranty in the world can solve lack of customer confidence or their desire to get rid of the machine rather than have the manufacturer make it right. The manufacturer is bound to making the required repairs. There is no return policy with motor vehicles. Especially in this case. There is nothing catastrophically wrong with this bike.
In EXTREME cases (and this is clearly not one of them) the manufacturer will buy the bike back from the customer. I have only seen it happen ONCE, and Suzuki never figured out what the problem was.
