    That's what I was saying.

WOW, a small little comment turned this thread upside down. I'll be the first to admit that riding a KX dirtbike 20 years ago has little impact of how a rider drives on the street in 2011.
I would attribute more to the MSF 2 day course in being a safe responsible street rider. Thanks all

Riding dirt bikes mainly familiarizes you with all of the controls and provides a great learning environment because there is no traffic. Knowing those controls lets a new street rider focus on more experienced techniques. That being said I have seen a lot of dirt riders taking the MSF course that have bad habits that were picked up riding dirt. These will need to be broken, but I'd much rather see someone with previous dirt experience over someone who has never rode.

Welcome! I have the same bike, only green. I've considered upgrading a few times, but that bike is just so damn fun to ride!

having owned an 07 gsxr 600, vulcan 900, and currently, an 09 er-6n(naked version of your bike, I will say that you have, in my opinion, purchased the perfect first street bike. On top of being just plain fun to ride, they're easy/cheap to maintain, the motors have plenty of torque to be fun, it's very thin, flickable, and easy to handle, and with a set of sport bars you can kick up the fun factor a few notches when/if you want.

You'll enjoy that bike a lot.

Nice 650! I just got rid of my 07 and the bike was just a blast, aftermarket exhaust bmc filter and pc III brought out some extra power. And welcome to the forum.

Bryco13,ThisB,Alvecchio -- Thanks for all the welcomes and bike approvals. I looked at different bikes for months and decided that the 650r was the one. Found a good deal and here I am. Can't wait to get it out on the Road.

You're keeping busy! I'm hoping to pick up my new "new to me" bike this weekend if this knob doesn't sell it out from under me in the next three days.

I agree on what some other members have commented on already. Nice choice in first bike and not skimping in the gear dept like so many newbs do.

Nice bike. Love the helmet (it's close to the one I want to pick up) and great gear choice. If you find that black leather gets really hot in the summer (my yellow leather did, whew) look at some of the A* textile jackets. I have the "sniper" one (black/white/grey camo) and it's very comfy/breatheable for the warmer days where the leather is to hot. And I feel safe with it on with all the armour.

Enjoy your riding. Sadly I'm headed off to Korea in a few weeks otherwise I would join you and Dan for a ride. Maybe when I come home for leave!

DocCola, thanks for the info on the A* Textile Jackets (the Sniper is pretty slick), I'll look into getting one as Summer approaches. I can;t wait to get out and rack up some miles.

You got a little piece of my heart there my friend. That was bike number 7 for me. I moved on to a Triumph which is overall a better bike but I will always miss the 650R you have one of the best all around bikes out there, for city and commuting it is tops. And do not do this in order to get video editing jobs:

In round 3 do yourself a favor and pick up the ninja650shop sport bars. They will put you a little further forward and make the bike MUCH more fun to ride.

Also, crash tested the woodcraft sliders this fall. They work
