I heard from an auto shop that as of Jan. 1 there is going to be a 20% tax put on new tire sales. I couldn't get into the details with him but have any of you heard of this before? If the info is correct this will undoubtedly hit you racers and frequent TD goers. Hell, its gonna affect all of us come to think of it.

Is this only for ma? If so just another reason to not go to cycles

Not heard about this before. Liky won't apply to off road tires (bought from a track vendor, hint hint).
From a shop here in NH. I couldn't see it pertaining to off road but with such little info I won't hazard a guess as to its details. Any tire guys affiliated with the moto sport or just car/truck should have heard of such a tax I would think.

20% tax in nh? you guys dont even have a tax on anything up their i thought?
I'm a shop in MA and we have heard NOTHING about that. 20% is huge. Sounds like silly season's in full swing
Sounds like someone's trying to justify a price hike. : )
I expect they've misunderstood Obama's "tire tax," which is a 35% tariff on low-end Chinese tires. Some of the pundits were theorizing that it could drive tire prices in general up around 20%. But then again, pundits were also convinced we'd all be paying $6/gallon for gas by now.

just did a "tire tax" search for NH and only found links to the recent court case that declared it illegal for Massachusetts to tax tires their residence bought in NH

I call BS.
Give us the shop and sales reps name so we can check up on this for you.
You may have hit it on the head but that doesn't give anyone reason to throw missinformation to its customers. It was not a bike shop or large auto dealer. I too figure BS but being uninformed and not in the business thought I'd see if any others have heard of such an obamanation of taxation. Now I'm curious how this "20% tax on Jan1" gossip came to be.
