The whole issue is that it gets too stiff as the rate rises sharply on the stock link. I have the correct spring for sag, which is before the link kicks in much. So in theory i should not need to change. I will just gaim more plushness later in the stroke.
cushion for the pushin!
means something else in bikes... lol

Stupid 13/14 rearsets don't work. Need to resell.
Here are pictures of the tires...anything to be concerned about? Also, pressures on the Contis? Cold and hot please.

Don't think many people here will know much about the contis. Try Degsy and crew. I think they tried them for a while. Generally speaking 32f 30r hot is a safe starting point.
Ooooh, I thought those were the sipes! lol They all look similar. Personally, I wouldn't use those tires, but I do not know the Contis at all, so perhaps I'm biased
Jay,
FYI, I would not run those tires, these cracks must be recent as they were not there when we pulled it out of my basement. this is most likely from the short bitter cold (it was in the low teens when we moved it) then back in the "warmth" of Tim's place.

Those cracks appear to all be on the outer surface of the tire, and not the air-tight inner layer behind the carcass. They should be fine, and act like grooves in a DOT tire increasing heat slightly. Jim's temps are where you'll want to be and those should be fine to run, just keep an eye on them, and your air pressure, to ensure you aren't losing any air.
The rear is OK, but I will probably try to line up a replacement front.
"Appear" to be on the outside is not enough comfort for me. If this was something normal that many people have run with, I would run them.
Anyone have a front I can use for a day? Other wise, I'll be mixing and matching brands.
Thanks for the tire pressure info!

I've got some various conti and other take offs, again... swing by sometime dude!
FWIW, I have seen that same cracking on all major tire brands (specifically on Dunlops and Pirelli) in the past. People always freak out (usually in spring, as they cracked from being on ice cold pavement), some swap out and some run them. *Personally* I have never seen anyone who ran a cold-cracked tire have any serious issues. Up to you tho boss![]()
Jay I have a 2 sets of Dunlop UK NTEC's that are fairly low wear. I'd just be looking for $100/set if you're on need.
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
Be quiet, Jim, I'm trying to sell tires.

Its a 190 conti on there right now. Rear ride height has been adjusted for the 190 already. So If I go 180 I technically need to drop the rear. Giggity.

Sounds like I have the perfect tires for you then!

Whether it's ok or not, a tire with big splits on it, on a bike you've never ridden, idk... i'd just replace them. Even just for peace of mind. That shit is ugly.

So I have an old Pirelli sc1 front slick, and an old conti race attack DOT soft. Both are old take offs, both are 120-70. Which do I run?

Rear is a medium conti race attack slick 190. Sliced front is a conti race attack slick 120-70 soft.

I've got a mixed stack of Conti and Michelin DOT's, used and new, in case you wanted other options.
So, first track day is done with.
Finished trailer and bike Friday night at 11pm. Front sag was good, rear sag was not. In order to get the proper static sag I had no free sag at the top (I need a lighter spring as I knew) so I set sag right, then dialed down the preload until I had at least a little play. Ended up stopping by scotties for a front tire on the way out. Arrived at 24/7 Walmart 45 minutes from the track at 3am and slept in the car for 3.5 hours.
Got to the track, it was cold. Got the front mounted. I had signed up for intermediate, but talked to the guys and decided to do beginner for the first session, since it was a new track, new bike, and I hadn't ridden a motorcycle in 2 years.
First session was slow, saw the track follow the leader style. Second session I did beginner again and saw mostly all open track. I was not comfortable for a single second. In a desperate move I bought new tires, some Dunlop q3s. Get back out there again and still, everything sucks. The bike just wouldn't turn. Next session I back off some front compression and it helps a lot. But now, every time the bike is leaned over it is "wavering." Nothing I had felt before. Not pushing, not chatter, but a gyroscopic type feeling. I have no confidence, and I spend the next couple sessions playing with rebound and compression trying to fix this. I am going so slow. I'm not working on breaking, or drive, just trying to figure out what the hell is going on with the bike when it's leaned over. At this point I'm about to accept that I may just suck at riding a middleweight and motorcycles in general.
Finally, with two sessions left, I find the problem. The left fork is like a mm higher than the right. I fix this, and my god, the bike is amazing (relatively)! I enjoy that session, and the one remaining session a new man. I love motorcycles again!
One thing I found weird is that the left fork has 11 clicks of adjustment for rebound and the right has 15. Any ideas?
I'll share my thoughts on NYST and the awesome track day they put on later, but my poop is over and that's all I got for now.

The Q3's are awesome huh?? Now go get the suspension fixed before you ride it again. It can mean the difference between feeling like a chump and superman!
