Not to hijack this thread too much, but I think the half fairing on the K1200R Sport should actually do a decent job. I've only got a short demo ride on one, but the wind protection felt similar to my old R1100S. I did over 10K miles on that bike and wind protection was never an issue for me.
To my eye, I think they tried to mimic the fairing of the R1200S, and lots of people feel that's a great sport tourer.
As a sport tourer, I don't think you'd be too disappointed with the K12RSport. Some of the other warts (reliability: EWS failure, possible final drive issues, jerky throttle response) definitely exist.
That said I'm still pretty happy with my K1200S. I've heard the '07-'08s improved the throttle response (smoother), and that's my biggest gripe with the bike.
Also, as someone else said, they only made the R Sport for one year. The basic bike (K1200R) is still being made though, so that limited/discontinued production wouldnt bother me. I don't know if a new unit is to be found, but I see lots of low mileage R Sports at MAX's.
The wheelbase is a beast though...good on fast sweepers, but tough on anything really tight.
