Adding a zipper for leather pants

Hey All. This may be a silly question, but I have an Alpinestar full leather jacket with all the armor inside. The one thing its lacking is a full zipper around the bottom. There is one about 12-16 inches long across the bottom of the back, but I'm told that to get on the track, it needs to zip the entire way around. Has anybody ever sewn in a full zipper to the bottom of a leather jacket so that it accepts leather pants that are approved for the track? This would save me from having to buy another jacket.
