    Any advice???

My headlight went out the other day, so I bought a new one and tried to replace it yesterday. As it turns out, there must have been a short and the connector melted. Does anyone know if I can just buy the headlight connector, or if I'm stuck getting a new wiring harness? Been looking around a little bit online, but haven't found a definite answer yet.

As has been suggested, junk yard, cut the pigtail off, solder to your harness. I like to use heat shrink instead of tape, seals better.

Before you install, clean the connector so the pins are nice and shiny, then pack it with dielectric grease. Normally it's corrosion upping the resistance that causes them to melt like that rather than a direct short.

    Re: Any advice???

Not to much dielectric grease. :-) I learned that on spark plug wires.

What kulron said. Buying a new harness is WAY more then you should spend.

    Re: Any advice???

Does the connector plug directly into the headlight or is there some wires hanging off the headlight with another connector? If so you might be able to find any type of weatherproof connector combo, both male and female, that can connect a number of wires. If you need 1 specific connector, can't a dealer order 1 for you?

    Re: Any advice???

Thanks everyone. It turns out that I can get just the sub-harness that connects to the headlights and front blinkers....all for the fantastic price of $18.00. Ordered it today, should be in Wednesday. Looks like I'll have to use my bro's V-Star this weekend cuz it looks like it is going to be a good one.

Go to ADAP or any other auto parts store and get an "H4" connector and splice it in. Most bikes use an H4 connector if it looks like the one in the link you are all set

    Re: Any advice???

If the bulb is higher wattage than OEM, it will melt the OEM plug. Any chance it's not a stock bulb in there? You can get H4s up to 100/130 watt. That's about double the wattage of stock. If you run one of those, you should use a high heat connector. They are cheap. I think NAPA stocks them.
