Anyone using the Apple TV box to watch to MotoGP streaming video? How's the quality? HD? Issues with connections, etc??
Ehh....I also subscribe. Never new you could do that. Although I normally watch it on our 32' bedroom tv/computer monitor.
If I could get it onto our Roku I'd ditch cable altogether.

Yeah, all last year I watched all the MotoGp races, interviews, qualifing, etc through my Mac computer, via a HDMI cable and mirrored to my TV. But this year I want to do away with the cable (it's a PITA because I only have one HDMI port on the TV and the HDMI splitters suck) so I have to keep unplugging the cable, etc. But now that I have a Iphone with an App that I can remotely control my laptop I thought it would be neat to just get the Apple TV ($99) and have everything (music, vids, photo's, streaming stuff) set to the TV through WiFi--
Hey, look at me with all this HiTech stuff--
Oh yeah, the Contour Vids should float right over too!!!
Just wondering if anyone has used it????
Here's my understanding of things.
With your iPhone or iPad1, you can stream youtube stuff to AppleTV, but nothing else. With iPad2 (and maybe any mac computer?) you can mirror whatever you see on the iPad (or computer, if applicable).
So, with an iPad2 (or maybe any mac computer) you could watch MotoGP through the AppleTV. But, you can't just use the AppleTV like a computer and scroll to MotoGP.com and select a video...though it'd be nice. So, I'm screwed, cause I have the iPad1. Sounds like you may be good though Steve since you have a Mac computer (if you can indeed mirror a Mac 'puter).
Some Mac gurus might be able to set me straight on a couple of these details.
Yeah, I've got an MacPro, and iPhone 4S so I could use this:
Your content. Large and in charge.
Not only can you stream music, photos, and videos to Apple TV from your computer — but thanks to AirPlay, you can also stream it all from your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.5 So if you feel like watching a movie you have on one of your devices, you don’t need to rent or buy it again. You can also stream a home video you just recorded or videos from websites and AirPlay-enabled apps. Simply tap to start playing content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, then tap again to instantly stream whatever you’re watching — or listening to — directly to Apple TV.
To mirror from computer- MotoGP- to the TV.
I think.
Anyone???
BTW- Loudog, been playing with the QStarz---NICE! Now, do you know the details about getting video from the Contour into the program??
Might as well go "full boat" with all this Hitech crap.
Update it won't work! just left the apple store and the only way to get a MacBook to mirror the image to your big screen TV is to use the cable. iPad and iPhone works (tried it in the store) but the picture quality sucks!! Not even close to HD, so for me I wouldn't even do it if I owned an iPad!! Oh well, guess I'll stick with the cable.
Sorry for getting everyone's hope up
I've got an iPad2 and AppleTV.... it works pretty slick. If motogp.com's premium content lets you airplay the video like youtube/vimeo and similar sites do then it should work fine even in HD. I just tried it with the free videos and that worked, I don't have a video pass for premium content though.
No need to mirror... (which does have relatively crappy resolution)
Here's what I do know: Can send video from MotoGP from Iphone, Ipad via Apple TV (no wires) to HDTV. We did it with both my Iphone4S and the in-store Ipad no problem---BUT---video quality SUCKED, now remember, we we're watching the free video and I didn't check the resolution, AND I have no idea what the store has for bandwith, speed, etc coming in...but the Macgeek said that any wireless stream is gonna suck---but I don't know for sure!!
RyanNic, would you say what you saw was in HD?
So for now, I'm using the MacBook>adapter>HDMI cable>HDTV with the computer controlled wirelessly (WiFi) using Mobile Mouse app. from my iPhone 4s. The picture quality is GOOD, High Resolution (960?Xwhatever) but according to MotoGP wesite you can get up (1280Xwhatever) HD quality depending on your internet bandwith, spd. So I'm going to check on that next (I have the middle speed from FiOS)
Stay tuned..........
I think that's the problem. If it does...sweet! But I think it only works with Vimeo and Youtube like that.
Otherwise it'd be sweet. I, like you, get good quality when going through the iPad in that manner.
This has gotta be so confusing for a non-AppleTV-owning on-looker...
Yeah for sure, I'm New to Mac so it's confusing to me too

seeing as its been almost a year.... time to drag this out again..
First... Motogp seasons pass... WORTH IT... watched 90% of the races real time and recorded via HDMI to my wall mounted 42.. and even caught some practice sessions while at work.. nothing like closing the office door, watching Motogp on 1 laptop and working off another... AWESOME...... I watched Rossi's return to Yamaha... FAIL.....and a few other things.. the produce new content every week. for me.... again.... its worth it...
Second. you can certainly STILL do.. iphone and ipad to ATV....
OR.... This.... full HD wireless MAC-PC version 149$ PC only 139$ http://www.warpia.com/products/streamhd-swp130a im looking for another "all content solution" all local computer content, pics, vids....and NF, YT, Hulu.... but this is what I found that works. "NOW" and does the local content and of course you can stram any of those sites from the laptop or pc so i guess it does all content just not the way id like...
anyone else??

I think the problem with mirroring the MacBook Pro is it needs to be an "early 2011" or newer model. Mine is a late 2010, and it wont work. Something about the hardware not supporting it.

Use AirParrot. I used to use that on my MacBookPro4,1, which was an early 2008 model and ran OS X 10.7 Lion.
One drawback on mirroring is that you need a good wireless network. If the signal gets "behind", it slows, stops, and speeds up, as as it stays with the stream.
