that is why i only look for helmets with a Snell Cert. at least you know there is some system behind it. you can buy those D.O.T stickers online and slap them on a plastic football helmet.
My point is that when you go to get your bike inspected and they complain about the non DOT blinkers that they are not really in their rights if NHTSA does not certify ANYTHING DOT.

i think they are talking about the fact your blinkers to not meet D.O.T guidlines. the D.O.T does have rules about what is and is not allowed. they just do not certify specific brands and models. the D.O.T stickers and stamps are statements by the manufacturer that they have verified this part complies with the regulations set forth by the D.O.T
