No car payment here! You need to sell the car Chuck...sell the car
Thanks for the info Mike. The more I dig, the more stories I find about the same problems you have listed...even on the 08sI'd love to try one before I buy but those chances seem slim to none. Do you plan on fixxing yours? Those motors sound simply amazing..

Thanks Ken, I have to run to Razees this week at some point for some KTM parts, I'll ask then![]()

To be honest it is a bit of a love hate relationship. I really wish they had ironed a few of the bugs out before they released it.
I haven't decided what to do with the bike. I am still figuring out what the cost will be to fix it. AF1 has an '08 crate motor for sale but they want $4400 for it. I hope I can rebuild my motor for less than that. My friend Shaun is talking to someone he knows at Falicon about repairing the crank/rod. They did a great job fixing my DRZ crank, and welding my ktm crank.
I had been thinking about selling it, before it broke. I am not sure what my plans will be if/when I fix it. There is a small chance I will part it out. If so I will have a pile of good parts for sale.

I'm still up in the air on this one and trying hard not to make a purchase without thinking it through again. Shut it Chuck!!
I've gotten a couple prices on 07, 08 and 09 models...I really want a 08/09 but there's a big price gap... I've got time I guess. In another month and a half, the 08 will be a left over
Anyway, thumbs up to all those that mentioned Seacoast, they seem great to deal with and if/when I buy one, I'll probably make the trip to Derry.
Yamaha
Man, just when you're almost over something, a smoken deal pops up
This is $1,100 less than the best price I got an a 08 for what it's worth. Someone other than me should buy this bike

im lusting after the SXV 5.5 as wellits on the top of my list for a sumo next season but the issues worry me. im fine working on my bikes but LOTS of similar stories on SMJ and AF1 regarding the 550, '08s included
Husky SMR510 is on top of the list too, just as much maintenance, but seems more reliable.
Beta 200RR
Jumping in late here, but I gotta say....those bastards raped me on a tire! Over $360 for a tire that didn't even match what they were replacing. I had gotten a large (unrepairable) hole in a brandy new Metzler Sportec rear, and was stuck 150 miles from home with them being the only shop open on a Saturday for miles with ANYTHING to replace a common 180/55-ZR17. I wouldn't mind nearly as much if it was a matching tire, but it wasn't.
They tool full advantage of me and my situation.

Good to hear you're getting an ape Mark!
Wagner is probably closer to you but I did not have the greatest service experience with them. Seacoast would be my choice too.

How have you been Eduardo, been a while?
"If" I get the Ape, it won't be until spring. Honestly though, I got a little over excited about that bike and the more I read about it, the more I'm leaning away from it. That one needs another year or 2 for them to work the bugs out of![]()

I am still waiting to hear back from Falicon, but I imagine I will fix it. I really hate the idea of parting any bike out.
I am still contemplating selling it. There are a couple of new bikes out that have caught my eye, but I am in no hurry to make a decision now.

Busy time of the year for them, I imagine. I need to get my Katoom crank in the mail.
Bummer about the Ape. You had some hot parts on it, though... worst case scenario being a "part out" I bet you'd make out OK.
The real question, though is what's been catching your eye?:
You are probably right, but I would still rather sell it as a running bike.
I have been liking the rc8,848, and the new r1. I could also be tempted by a great deal on an s4rs.

Mark, Gbm in Arlington has an '07 550 svx they took in trade on one of the bmw 450's. It has very low miles. I was told they were looking to get somewhere in the $7000 range for it.

Didn't one of those 2007 SVX models have an engine problem? I would call Seacoast to follow up on that. I was looking at them about 1 year ago and found some (meaning more than one) 2007 SVX bikes on ebay with replaced engines less than a year old. I believe what I had read was in 2008 the engine design has been fixed. 2007 engines were dealt with under warrantee. I was about to buy one for $5,000 that the engine was bad and the seller didn't want to wait for the warrantee replacement. Don't believe me, just investigate first.
The early bikes definitely have problems, but unfortunately so do the newer ones. You can tell if the engine has been replaced/repaired by the color of the sealant between the case halves. I forget which is the color you want. My 2006 never sprang the leaks that most people complain about, but it did lose the oil pump drive sprocket, and the stator came loose, both problems were fixed under warranty by seacoast.

The Providence Aprilia dealer is open now. Mostly scooters in the showroom but they have an RSV & a Tuouo. it's actually in North Prov. Providence Motorsports, 1670 Mineral Spring Ave.(at Douglas Ave.) North Prov. 02904.
PH # 401-490-0591. I talked to Cindy Brown, General Manager. Sounds like good people.
There are still waiting for a new sign so look closely. I think they will start advertising after New Years.
As of Wagner I think they are over priced on service. Mark Reynolds is a great guy. I bought my 2003 Tuono from him when he had his owner dealer but sold out to Wagner. Not happy with the rest of them.
Seacoast is the best! Fair price for great work. Jeese & Charles are great. Went out of there way for me & I didn't even buy my bike there!

Thanks for the heads up Mike. If/when I do get one, it'll have to be an 08 or newer. For what it's worth, Seacoast quoted me $6,899 for a brand new 07 left over with a 1 year warranty
The 08 engine has stronger/thicker engine cases and a redesigned starter. Those were the 2 major issues from what I've read on the 06 and 07 models. The 08 still isn't perfect but is a big improvement over the 06 and 07..again just from what I've read on the Aprilia forum.
I'd still love to have one but can't afford another streetbike now, so I'd have to give up my R1 for one. The R1 has proven reliability, the SXV has proven failures...it's a no brainer for me![]()
