So I did the big ass long long ride to PEI

that I posted about a couple of weeks ago. Got some decent advice from this forum, and it worked out well.

Total was 1300 miles round trip. I went up Friday afternoon and spent the night in Podunk, ME then finished the trip Saturday. I met up with the rest of the family somewhere in New Brunswick. After a week of slacking around and eating shellfish, I rode back the following Saturday, 650 miles in a single shot. I had to stop a few times just to let blood flow back into my ass and regain feeling in my right hand, but there were no major cramps or other ill effect. Well, my back tire has a big flat spot, but other than that...

    Things I did that made the ride tolerable;

    • Bike shorts and poly shirt under my textile suit
    • Waterproof gloves with a squeegee on the finger (yeah, it rained a bunch on the way back)
    • Bought a tank bag with a camelback bladder compartment
    • Ate poptarts
    • Stopped when I felt like it, if only to get off the bike for 60 seconds then ride on

This kinda changes things for me, prior to this I had only done something like 150 miles at a time. Soooo, who's up for a multi day tour of Nova Scotia later this year???

haha, unfortunately my riding this weekend is confined to a buell blast in a parking lot.
But grab that FZ1 and let's go on the road next year. I need it

nice pics. Longer rides bring out the best! In people and in bikes. haven't been that far north. Congrats!

Next you need a Sargent seat, you'll forget you'll have a hard time believing you didn't just sit down.
    congrats on the journey

I'll have to check that out, the bike came with a Corbin which is pretty comfortable for the first few hours but feels like a brick after you've been on it all day. Maybe I just need to up my donut consumption and grow a little padding back there

I've tried adding donuts, it doesen't help

I've not ridden with Corbin's, so I cannot say first hand that one is better than the other. When choosing which to buy I'd read that Sargent was better for longer tours due to the type(s) of foam they used. I've done hundreds of miles on mine and no hot spots or annoyance, I'm a big fan.

If you want to get laughs, check out BeadRider - Beaded Motorcycle Seats . It seems a little odd, but if riding LD is your thing, you'll greatly appreciate them

Congrats on the long distance trip. Glad it went well for you.

There is nothing better then a nice long weekend away on the bike.

I just picked up a Sargent for my FZ1 and don't think that you will see too much of a difference over the Corbin. I did 2 rides from Southern Mass to Ohio within a three week span. One on a Corbin which is firm like the Sargent, and on on the soft stock seat. After 100 miles the soft seat was unbearable. On the other side of the coin after a couple of hundred miles in the Corbin saddle it was uncomfortable as well.

The two seats are very similar. I don't think you will see an extreme difference between the two. Save you money for Beef Jerky and water.

Re: So I did the big ass long long ride to PEI

...three years ago, on a Canadian Sport Tour to NS/Cape Breton...I had to stop at a Canadian Tire in Port Hawksbury. I bought a Gel Pad for an office chair, strapped it on my Corbin Seat, and carried on!

When I got home I had my wife sew some elastic straps on the pad and am using it on my Multi stock seat. Cost about $40.00 and works great.

Re: So I did the big ass long long ride to PEI

We did 2700 miles from Ma. to Nova Scotia, Cape Bretton Isle, and PEI in July. We took 1 week, it was not enough time to see what we wanted to see, if your going make sure you have more time, or split it into more than 1 trip. The island looks small on the map, but it's not.

Re: So I did the big ass long long ride to PEI

I just did a ride with my dad from Boston to Nova Scotia. Little over 1,800mi and did it in 5 days, and definately wasn't long enough for all there is to see up there. We got pretty lucky and only hit rain on the way home, took our time getting up there and around the cabot trail. On the way home we did 640mi from New Glasgow NS to Portland, longest day I've had in the saddle. Hoping to do a 1000mi day sometime this September.

Trust me, having a fat ass doesn't help.

I don't know about later this year, but I'd definitely like to plan a week long riding/camping trip through Nova Scotia for May/June next year.
