So some of you know me and some of you don't. I had my first motorcycle accident after 3years of riding. Some of you around the Worcester area might have seen it or been stuck in the traffic yesterday around 7am.
Pickup was in the slow lane, either hit gravel on the breakdown lane or locked up his brakes for some reason or just wasn't paying attention. Spun out and came across the highway into the fast lane (my travel lane at the time). Sti in front of me slammed on his brakes, i had no where to swerve so ended up grabbing a handful of brake (mistake or not might have saved my life). From my understanding the pick up driver got cited. I was lucky not to have hit the truck dead on or id be under it, or have the truck spin out and actually hit the bike with me on it.
As far as injuries, no broken bones just a lot of pain. Road rash on both my knees with my left having a golf ball sized chunk missing out of it, 12 stitches and just a little bit on my left hip. I'm sore as hell but lucky to be alive with nothing serious or major.
My gear saved most of my body, unfortunately i don't wear my 1piece to work as its not practicle but i have on my a* mx1 (took a hit on the shoulder elbow and arm, no pain there at all) my shark helmet hit the hump so saved me form whiplash, helmet never touched the ground doesnt have a mark on it, work pants and work boots which saved my feet from major damage. The gloves did an absolutely amazing job, (a* gp plus), have absolutely no marks on my fingers or hands. I was conscious most of the time and didnt close my eyes so i could see what was going on. Saw the bike tumble end over end. Wish i had pictures of the bike but i will take some of my gear once im back on my feet. The wounds are bad so def not gonna show that.
If anyone is in the Worcester area and would like to stop by at Pats Towing and if they let you take some pics of it i would really appreciate that. Its a gunmetal 2002 cbr600f4i.
P.S. Please wear gear guys, never thought it would happen to me, even though it was completely out of my hands. But it saved me from serious injuries and more pain. I know its hot and gets sweaty but leather just proved itself.
glad you are doing ok man

Glad to hear you are okay man. I gear up at much as I can for my ride to work. Wish I could wear some textile pants but would be a little impractical. But I started wearing my A* boots with my uniform and it just feels much more "right" than wearing my soft sided combat boots.
Heal up quick.
Good to hear that you survived it man. Youll be back on your feet in NO TIME
Thanks for posting up. Good to hear you're gonna be OK. I am always thinking about someone crossing the median into my lane...and hope I'll have enough warning to react. But the reality is, that shit happens fast.
...and it takes a TON of training and practice to overcome instincts to just grab a handful. I have a couple of offs as a result...and would like to think I'm better now but you never know until you've been tested!i had no where to swerve so ended up grabbing a handful of brake (mistake or not might have saved my life).
Glad the gear you wore helped...and I get that you can't always be wearing ATG.

I am glad your ok, feel better soon.
Glad you were able to type that to us. Heal quick!
Heal up Quick Glad You ok
Hey, dood, whatever you did or didn't do, it "worked out" so you're still with us. Nice bike, and THAT's a shame, but lots of stuff could have happened that didn't so don't doubt yourself too much. From the sound of things, you did what ya could. You're already plotting your worries about the bike, a VERY good thing. Get better quick, ya hear?![]()
Thanks for the kind words guys, its weird im already itching to ride again haha. Yea everyone at the er and the emts were saying how lucky i was that nothing else happened. My mom has been taking care of me and my wounds so its not too bad. The left knee is whats hurting real bad but the pills are helping. They put a needle in my joint (hurt so bad i was like WOW) with dye to see if ti went down to the joint but it didnt. I was surprised it didnt break cuz of how deep the gash was.
Good to see you're okay man. Heal up and get back out there.

i've always been under the impression that "it" will happen to me someday. you can only mitigate so much risk. sounds like you were doing the right things anyway. best of luck with the recovery.

Close your eyes, look deep in your soul, step outside yourself and let your mind go.
Very glad to hear that you're recovering and hope that you're well soon.

Hey Vic, glad you're ok man! So i guess your not going ot take your bike from the tow yard. After chatting with you yesterday and you saying the bike is most likley totaled i figure the insurance would just take care of the tow and holding fee's. If I can jet out of work early today I'll try to grab some pics for ya, how long will the bike be there?
Having an accident on my way to work is definitley one of my worst fears. I always were my jacket (leather or my half textile/mesh) gloves, A* boots and helmet obviously. but I also always just wear jeans.
Do the jeans with the kevlar really help to stop some of the damage that Vic sustained in his knees and hips due to gringing with the ground?
Steve i think knee armor would have said my knees. The bike should be there a couple days called my insurance company there gonna get an adjuster there in 2 business days or so. I called and they said the frame looked damaged so idk. If you do get pics post em up here, i still gotta call and ask about my gear. I can reuse the gloves but dunno if i will might just get new ones.
Oh and my worst fear is just riding back home at night and having a deer come out in the middle of the road and im just stuck there in the middle of the highway.
Awww buddy. Tough luck, but so glad you are ok. I havn't seen you around at all this season, was hoping to see ya around some time. Heal up fast!
your above ground, this is whats important, hope you feel better soon buddy!
Take care of the injuries first.
godspeed
Called my insurance im just trying to get the other persons information and insurance so that my insurance can start processing. I gotta go after the other insurance though for my gear. It looks like it was 4 weeks for a crash report so i hope not.
Best of luck man, I hope you're back on two wheels soon.
