So yesterday afternoon I'm on my way home from a sales call in Manchester, NH on rt.93 south (two lane highway with a soft shoulder on the left and a breakdown lane on the right) and a couple of jackasses on sportbikes come up from behind and pass me by splitting lanes at 100+ mph in heavy traffic. When they get to the gap in the packs of cars about 200 feet in front of where I am they slow down to about 60 mph and start holding up traffic so the jackass on the gixxer can "practice" his standup wheelies. I say practice because he could do them, but not smoothly and couldn't ride them any distance.
Now, call me crazy but is it really a good idea to "practice" something as dangerous as a standup wheelie in heavy rush hour traffic? Then to top it all off the other tool starts SKETCHING!!! I ask if I'm a dick because I'm pretty torqued up at this point because of them holding up traffic to pull this crap so I move into the breakdown lane to pass the held up traffic and get away from these assholes. Just as I pass the last car and just about reach the bikes the kid in the left lane starts drifting into the breakdown lane because he's too busy watching his buddy over his left shoulder and nearly collides with me and for a second there I actually found myself wishing for him to go down.
I hate wishing harm on other riders because it's bad karma, but these jerkoffs just seemed to be asking for it...

pfft, I woulda gotten plate numbers & called the cops. That's
Dont give descriptions cuz that categorizes them as the same kinda people we are... sportbikers... get plates & it turns them into individuals being asshats.

I cant speak for anyone else, but I certainly had my squidly days.
Dont hate them because they're stupid, feel bad for them because they're going to get hurt.
The only flaw to that logic is that they were at serious risk of hurting someone else as well, otherwise I wouldn't have cared. I have no issue with stunting so long as it's done in a semi-controlled environment like a deserted airport road or industrial park.

I gotta agree with you. Seeing first hand what "stunting" can do on the streets makes me a stong opponent to that type of thing. Lofting the front end for a few feet when taking off is one thing, standup wheelie in heavy traffic doin 60 is another.

I am assuming yoju were in a cage, but maybe not, my business vehicle is my SV, so if I were in your situation I would have been on a bike.
whenever I see crap like that, I don't really care what they do, but I do my best to protect myself , I distance them as quickly as possible, and as far as possible, usually their antics distance themselves from me, but if not, I will even resort to turning of ant an exit or side road for a few minutes
another advantage of riding a grubby SV with leather saddlebags and dirtbike hand grip guards, the cops won't mistake you for one of them
if I were in a cage, I'd just get out of their way , follow at a safe distance where I know their stupidity will not happen where I can't react to it
I'm not a snitch, cause most liekly the cops won't catch them, and one more report to the LEOs adds fodder to the negativity against sportbikers
should this be a controvertial topic?

The same thing happened to us at about 10PM last night (the 23rd) on our way to the big ride....93 South right before the tolls. One of the guys had red tires, most were on blue+white gixxers with matching jackets. Practicing stand-up wheelies, trying to stare reiobard and me down while riding. We didn't give in and just rode away from them....let them hurt themselves, not us.
If this happened/happens to anyone else, we def. should report it. Just gives the rest of us a bad name.

i dont think anyone should call the cops when they see any kinda stunting. damn sit back and enjoy the show. every one of us do stupid shit on our bikes. now un less u are one of them people that does not speed or ride your bike the way it should be ridden
than you can talk all you want about how others ride. now as far as you going into the brake down to pass you are just as wrong as the two stunters that is known as driving to endanger
I disagree, the longer it goes on the more people see it and the further the stereotype becomes perpetuated. Whether the cops stop them sooner or later doesn't change how many people on the highway witnessed it.Originally posted by mzdagrl

I don't have a problem with stunting as long as it's not done at my expense and risk. If you wanna stunt on a deserted stretch of highway at 3AM or in an industrial park then go right ahead, I might even show up to watch. But on a crowded two- lane higway at rush hour thes clowns were just asking to get killed or kill someone else. I don't care one way or another if they die doing it, (it's Darwinism afterall) but it's the lack of consideration for others that pisses me off.Originally posted by mikey2slow

Too bad they didnt get hit by a car.
Idiocy shouldnt be tolerated, not in a car, truck, nor a bike.

does the tree make a noise in the forest when it falls if no one is thereto listen?
if stunting is dangerous and squidley, it is whether someone is watching or not, its just as against the traffic laws on a secluded street as it is if it's a busy one
have you broken law?

stunting at 3am under artificial light at best is safer than in the day?

Seriously, there's no point in talking to people like you. If they want to risk their own health and safety then it's their choice, but putting others at risk is where the line needs to be drawn.

I didn't say it was safer for the stunter, my concern is for the people that we share the roads with. But now that you mention it, yes, it's still safer. If one of these tools went down then they most likely would have been hit and DEFINITELY killed by a following vehicle.Originally posted by RandyO

For those bashing the stunters stop and think for a second about how you're riding? This topic has been beaten to death a 100 times, yeah it's dangerous and could cause harm to others BUT so can riding the backroads at 2-3x the speed limit. Lets face it if you're a semi agressive sportrider you're setting the same bad immage as the stunters by ripping up the backroads and passing cars left and rite![]()

Disagree completely, if you're stunting in an area / during a time where there is noone else around, then you're not putting anyone but yourself in danger and stunting is fine, at least in my mind.Originally posted by RandyO

Conversely, if you're stunting in traffic / in a residential area / etc, there are other people around who can be harmed by your mistakes and this makes it wrong.
Same goes for sportriding, if you're blasting through a heavy residential area with blind curves at 5pm and overdriving your sight lines, you're putting others in danger with your recklessness and that is just as bad as stunting in traffic.

if it's dangerous, it's dangerous, traffic, residential area or not, even on a desolated road you don't know whos coming around the corner.
I guess it's ok to do if you think it's safe eh, some people can do it safely in traffic so they think, just like some people can do it in private, so they think.

first of all i think you have all made your points. here is my point of view, you were wrong to pass two bikes on the inside if i was passed by u i would have kicked out your window so you are just as wrong as the two bikes. you were driving just as stupid as they were so where is your point. that you dont know how to drive just the same as them and the only diffence in the hole thing was that they looked cool doing it and you where the tool for passing on the inside
Good argument, it was ok for them to do it because they looked cool doing it. Right........Originally posted by mikey2slow

why dont you go back and read what i was saying b4 you just take one thing and go with it passing on the inside is just as dumb as a stand up on the highway
