I have an aftermarket tail on my RC51 and I just cant seem to keep the battery in place. I dont have the stock tail to work with and I dont see any aftermarket stuff. Any RC51 guys on here run into this and have a good solution short of fabbing my own out of aluminum?
Pics!
I went to MMI I know what Im doing here chief
I ended up "fabricating" one out of aluminum, I'm pretty much a hack with that stuff but it didn't look too awful. If you've got some extra cash to spend the battery relocation kits for 51's are pretty sweet. Actually, those probably wouldn't be a huge diy challenge?

I can 3D print one out of ABS, would need a dimensioned sketch

Because batteries are rectilinear taking dimensions iseasy.
Made this to use a Li battery in the TW200. Rev 1.
This was made to test fit a replacement on the R90, which has a giant battery but modest electrical needs. I’ll replace the stocker when it wears out with another Li battery, maintain stock look and have storage space.
Your timing is goidas Im going to be house-bound a while after surgery. The printer will do 8”x8”x6” in one build.

Well, i pictured something more complex, but it is tight and the subframe i pictured it hanging from is where the seat rests.
This is what i was thinking, it should hook over the crossmember. The crossmember itself is 5/8", so maybe just a touch bigger. Maybe if the semicircle went like 200 degrees instead of 180 it would kinda snap on. The rear would just rest on the tail i guess.

Since I'm leaning toward a much simpler design, Im wondering if I should just try thermoforming some Kydex

edit: Im kinda second guessing Kydex, with the v-twin setup the battery mount is kinda close to the rear header, it definitely gets hot under there, I wounder if Kydex would soften up...

Kydex seems to have a Heat Deflextion Temperature of 150-170.
3DP ABS is around 200.
I suspect either will work.

Finally got around to looking for some pics, unfortunately no luck... Your mock up looks pretty similar to what I remember mine too look like, what I also remember is finding a good spot for the ECU was a pain, and I secured the tipover switch and the fuel pump relay to the back of the tray. PCIIIr I'm not sure where that ended up, and at the time it was a track only bike so I didn't have any of the lighting relays.

You're not supposed to remove the tray when you put those on. I have had 4 RC51's you cut the whale tale off and a little of the bottom of the box keeping the sides. The whole idea is to keep the battery box. I have had 3 different undertail covers. You really need to just spend the $25 or $30 to get a cut battery tray. Stock ones are $$$$$ but you can get the cut ones all day. Otherwise you are making a lot of work for nothin...
