Ok, heres the short story...
A few weekends ago I brought my bike to its new stable. I gave it a quick rinse, and left it out on the back patio for a few hours. When I came back there was a HUGE yellowish streak coming from the gas cap and pouring all down the left side of the tank. (My bike is a white SPD3)
I smelled gas, saw some on patio cement and shook my head in frustration. I called the dealership to ask them a few questions. Like WTF!!!!
The service guy told me...."if you leave your bike in the direct sun with a full or almost full tank you run the risk of the tank heating up, expanding, and pressurizing. Which will cause the gasses in the tank to expand and blow out the top of the tank". Anyone ever heard of this or had this experience? My manufacutures warentee expired in March. Just my damn luck.
I'm not talking about a few yellow spots here in there. It looks like a river flowing down the side of my tank!!!!!
Shit expands when it heats up....happens all the time... Didn't you learn your Molecular Physics?![]()
Don't fill it up so much & dont leave it in the hot sun

It happens all the time with my YSR and I can't figure it out.
It can't be right. I think I may have to drill a relief hole.

Gas expands quite a bit with only a small temperature change, (Fun fact, MotoGP bikes are restricted to 21L of fuel. They are also allowed to chill the fuel to no more than 15deg below ambient, which allows them to get another half liter in compare to filling with ambient temp gas.) When that gas expands, it's got to go somewhere. If your bike is on it's side stand, and it reaches the level of the cap, expect a mess.
But the tank isn't even full! It comes right up the return line...

This is a common problem on Speed Triples and Daytonas, if you or the dealer has taken your tank off recently the 2 small rubber lines that go the rear of the tank may have been mixed up or the "tip over" valve is clogged on the vent line.

also if kinked
The other should also drain from under the tank
