    More Bigger

Finally installed the big tank on the SXV Just over 3 gallons now so the range "should" be in the 70-80 mile range now vs the 45-55 I was getting before. The ironic thing, the last tank full with the 2 gallon tank, I got 75 easy miles out of? It's either breaking in good or it's ready to grenade..haha

I knew what to expect this time as it was my second shot at installing this tank. Now that I had all the correct parts (that at the time were not listed on the AF1 add), it was time to get this done.
I also did not order the updated seat to go with it, I read various posts saying the seat will fit, it's just a bitch to get on the first time, and there are a few gaps between the seat, tank and numberplates that the new 08 seat would take care of.
The tank itself went on as expected, easy. I had to adjust both radiator shrowds to make an even gap, not a big deal as there was plenty of slop in the holes. It's a detail thing
Installing the number plates per the directions looked like shit. I remember reading a post on AF1 about not installing the new rear numberplate spacers, so I gave it a shot. Much better fit for sure.
Now the seat was a bitch to put back on, which I new it was going to be. Same idea as installing it normally, but once the back clip is locked in, you almost have to twist the seat to get one side of the center tabs in, then keep pressure on that tab while you twist the seat again to get the other side tab in. All while doing this, keeping back pressure on the seat. (anyone who's put on a SXV seat should have an idea what I'm talking about) The D-ring quick faster was the easy part.

Test ride went well. I put about 1/2 gallon in at my house and went to the gas station to top off. Fuel light came on as I pulled in for gas and it took 2.4 gallons

    Couple pictures of the bike

The gaps that some don't like, really not that bad IMO.

The tank is a bit wider than the seat now, but again not that bad IMO

I know I need the tank graphics now to match but I'm thinking about going with the 08 factory graphics and changing the radiator shrowds to black ones?

sweet, I think big tanks usually look like hell and that still looks sweet. Their rear side panels are so weird though! The exhaust still rules too

lookin good! thanks for the pics, ive been wondering how bad the gap would be with the stock or VDB seat and 12L tank but its not that bad. bet with some heat and weight it will mold in fine. this mod is on my radar but ~55mi to the tank hasnt been a problem.... yet

see you finally got your number plates too still dont have my Silmoto, hoping for today

That thing is nasty... you should get some hand/bar guards for June 2nd just in case...

I'm hoping to get mine some time but as you know by now I'm sure, racing takes priority

Thanks I was also never a fan of oversized tanks on dirtbikes, mostly the clear/white plastic ones. This tank is the OEM tank for an 08 SXV

Thanks The gap isn't all that bad, I'm going to live with it. From what I've read, a little seat time will make it fit MUCH easier.
I didn't think the 50 mile range would be bad either but the fact that I'm just over 10 miles from a gas station and taking the fun sections of my little tard route is another 40 miles to the next gas stop. I know the roads are there to extend the first gas stop to 60-70 miles. It's worth it IMO

I don't have the cash for a Silmoto new, I've been hoping something used comes up for short money. I'd like a set of pipes and the air filter.
I couldn't wait for the numberplates anymore (sorry patricia) and got them from AF1

Cycra Probends are on the list, but haven't been a priority. Really just waiting on a group buy or a special to get them as they are kinda pricey.
June 2nd is still up in the air for me and I had to pull my name from the signup list. If I go, it'll be a last minute move Plus the Ape will stay home, that's a YZ track

    Re: More Bigger

I've not seen an SXV in person, just pics. I don't think it looks bad at all.

Is that the 450 or 550?
    How does it go?
I imagine it goes right long with a V-twin. Makes me wonder how it would compare to the other 450's with the single cylinder. I've never ridden a SM...though if I had the $ it would be a toss up between an SXV and a WR450...maybe some others.

Sweet bike though, I really like the SXV

    Re: More Bigger

Mine is a 550. It goes pretty good IMO, will it blow a 450 single away? No! It's a different type of power, LOTS of low end grunt off idle and pulls pretty smooth and hard up into the revs. The singles tend to be a little sluggish at lower RPMs (at least the ones I've owned/ridden) and have a abrupt hit of power once the RPM's start to rise, probably even pull a bit harder for a short duration.

not very happy with Alice Racing in the UK right now... they took my money right quick but failed to let me know they didnt have any in stock... i contact a week later to see what my status is and they inform me 'it will ship tomorrow'. uh, OK... another week goes by, i contact again for a tracking number and they say they will send it over... no response.

i know it will get here but damn, you took my money (+ the freeking exchange rate) at LEAST keep me informed when i ask.

also looking like i will miss out on another weekend of riding. Wagner was supposed to be wrapped with the bike last Fri... as of today... they hadnt even touched it. AWEsome.

yeah, i almost did go pick it up today but the reason for staying local was because i didnt have the time to drive up to Seacoast. heh, funny how that works out. i dropped it off last Thurs.

this is par for the course with me and dealers anyway. exact reason i like doing all my own service but with this bike... warranty is key.

    Re: More Bigger

that looks really good. I've heard that's an incredibly fun bike to ride.

a buddy of mine out west has one that he races on occassion in the MoM series at Miller. he has a video posted on his blog http://www.latebraker.com/blog/ scroll down about 2/3 of the way down past the picture of Shane White there's a link to a video of one race this year. Gets kinda sad at the end but don't worry he was fine and the bike only got some scratches.
