Copied from the Salem News. I'd like to know if its voluntary or are they going to be pulling over every bike that goes by. If the mma is involved I'm guessing its voluntary. But then again I've been wrong before.
BEVERLY — The Police Department and the Mass. Motorcycle Association will conduct a motorcycle exhaust check-point, to check the noise levels of exhaust systems, on Saturday, Aug. 28, at Dane Street Beach.
Officers from the traffic division will give motorcycle owners pass or fail certificates. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and any questions can be directed to Sgt. Page at 978-921-6051.
sounds like a fun time.
Be prepared to get a big FAIL if you're over 99 dBA, or don't have an EPA stamp on your exhaust.![]()
If I lived on Dane Street Beach I'd be begging for them to do that shit everyday.

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
I actually live right there. Only 3 times of the few months I've been here has a motorcycle been loud enough to disturb me.
Then again I do drive this road EVERY day. Maybe it was because of me
Then again my bike isn't even that loud.
They did it at the Beverly High school a few months back.
I'm staying out of Beverly that weekend. I have to repack my megaphone soon.

they did this when i lived in beverly and it was a "no questions asked" type of deal. If you failed you still got to ride home. It just let you know that you would fail an inspection. on the flip the local pd now nows your bike and could theoretically stop you later.
In N Hampton yesterday about noontime, it looked like the local police had a checkpoint for bikes, on Rte 111 between Rte 1 and 1A. I was driving the car so I wasn't stopped, but they had a bike pulled over. They had several police vehicles and about eight uniformed officers manning the stop.
Understandable perhaps since so many bikes use 111 to get to 1A then cruise into Portsmouth. Gotta say that it's been a whole lot quieter in Portsmouth this year compared to last summer when it seemed there was never a break from straight-pipe V-twin cruisers' flatulence.
I also saw a sign in Salem advertising one of these this weekend. Glad I wasn't out riding...
