    Bike fire yest 128N

Coming home about 2:45pm 128N just after Univ av exit I see black smoke up ahead, figure a car's on fire - nope, it's a bike - Pulled over to see if rider was ok, he was, but the bike was fairly well involved - older CBR1100 '97 I think it was

The rider said he felt heat on his leg, pulled over and it was already on fire - looks like it started under the seat area, so prob electrical

We could only stand there and watch it burn to the ground, when the tank went off, it was more of a POOF! than a ba-BOOM!

Amazing how fast it was reduced to melted alloy puddles and soot. The only thing left were the engine, tank, complete exhaust, forks/rotors, and subframe. Oh yeah, the tire cords too.

Turns out the owner is a rider instructor just coming from a class in Hyde Park.
Sucked watching a perfectly fine bike burn to the ground so quick

Yes, Paul from TDR, aka, me. Sucks for this to be my first post here, but someone forwarded the link to this thread to me, so figured the least I could do is reply.

    Thanks Darryl for stopping!

Here is the post I sent elsewhere:

    Go big or go home.

It's better to burn out than to fade away.

    Blaze of glory.

All things that went through my head as I sat by the side of I95 north, watching my Blackbird go up in flames.

I was on the way home from teaching a BRC when I felt some warmth below my left thigh. I reach down with my hand and I immediately feel intense heat. I hit the kill switch and turn the key off and coast to the side of the road.

I jump off the bike, there are flames coming out from under the seat on the left side. I have the presence of mind to pop the seat off, but the flames are too intense to pat out. I take the Givi off and back away. A fellow rider pulled over immediately yo make sure I was OK, and we hang out and watch it burn. I call 911, and wait close to 15-20 minute for the fire department to show up, by witch time, the bike is not recognizable.

I suspect the after market R/R. Ironically, I was just looking at OEM R/R's this morning. In facet, when I just fired up the laptop, the Ron Ayer's page was still on the screen, open to the R/R page.

Fire department shows up, puts out the hot spots. I had called Annie and she shows up, and we head home.

Now, were were all those post of those pretty clean XX's on Craiglsist?

    *SIGH*

    Paul.

Ohhh man, look at those pictures! That totally sucks. On the bright side, for a second there it had one HELLUVA realistic flame paint job!

Welcome to NESR, Paul. Like ya said, it's a bummer your first post is on such a down note, but at least ya got some crazy pics out of it.

    Wow, sorry to see that.

Interesting what made it through the flames. Did you keep anything for a souvenir or wall art?

This is the same XX you used to take 2-up around Loudon?

Holy crap those are some amazing pictures! I didn't think it was even possible for that much of a bike to burn away.

    Glad you're OK!
