Critter-proofing winter bike storage

My cage has been yard-art for a few weeks, with a blown brake line. During this time, some little furry bastard climbed in and chewed through some of the wiring.

This has me worrying about the bike this winter, my first with no garage. I was going to get a cover and also build a quick little hut over it out of plywood to keep the snow off.... but now I'm worried about critter problems. Anyone have a solution?

I have read that mothballs do a good job. Also peppermint. I do not know how effective it is, though.

Aluminum foil in the exhaust and intake. Most everything else is subject to critter invasion unless you completely wrap it from the wheels on up....and even then there's no guarantee.

I have outside storage that attracts lots of critters. Moth balls inside nylons then strategically placed seems to keep them at bay.

My $1,200 main sail had holes chewed through it. In an indoor garage. The little bugger then died in place. At least he picked the oldest sail.

I've always stuffed my intake snorkel and exhaust pipes with steel wool seems to have worked for a few other people I know also.

Build said box. Take battery out and maintain it indoors. Stuff steel wool in exhaust openings, intake box, take your seat off too. That like to build nests so the seat off leaves no hiding place. Buy poison and put it around your bike. Just make sure no friendly domestic animals can get to the poison. Don't forget to fog your motor.

Sounds like mothballs and steel wool will be the plan, and great thought on the seats! I'll bring those in for sure, along with the battery.

I don't LOVE this bike, it's not my baby or anything.... but I use it for transportation and don't feel like buying another!

steel wool is not something I'd stuff in an exaust or intake unless ya wann take the chance it rusts & disintigrates over the winter, especially on the intake side, broken steel particles & dust will end up in your combusion chamber first time ya start it

I've always had good luck with WD40 soaked rags stuffed where the vermin would regularly nest. I soak those fuckers good then stuff 'em in the cans & pack the air filter area under the tank...

Not only did the mice in my shed keep my air box warm last winter but they helped persuade me into buying a K&N air filter.

Hmmm.... maybe I'll pull the air filter. I'm supposed to pull the plugs anyway, IIRC. (never bothered before, when I had covered storage)
