Bike shopping advice

Paul Wants to go bike shopping for new bikes... we are just toying with the idea!
for this winter or next
we both have SVs right now which we will be keeping for future track time

any suggestions / any recommendations? and give me your reasons

we were both looking at

848
triumph 675
maybe motards or dual sports

The 848 and truimph are closer to what your riding now but the gsxr is the cheaper option and a fantastic bike. Totally different motors though. Coming from an sv id probably go for the 675.

ya def understand where your coming from... i love my SV but i also love my brothers gsxr and rays that i road the 1000.

I feel alot of it will be sitting on bikes too.. i have a small frame and inseam... and i will not lower a bike. :-D

My opinion, if you are keeping your current rides for track mules, I would look at other styles more prone to longer rides.
The Kawasaki Ninja 1000 has gotten great review. The Yamaha FZ8 or FZ1. I love my BWM F800.
Just one mans opinion.

thats my concern to i one foot my sv/ tippy toe... maybe i can break my legs and you know grow a few inches

Fuzzy on what you/he want. Your list seems agressive sport bike, but then the dual-sports are like left field.

If I could have two bikes in my garage, one would be a distance sport-tourer with bags and the other would be something light and fun. Maybe a race-rep 600 or even an SV.

i guess we are just open to anything in some ways... im torn im going to keep my sv street legal too ... but your right some times i do wish i had a "cargo bike" lol for when him and i take trips up north and stay over night at places... i wish i could buy 2
it would be a sport tourer, a sport bike and then my sv! but we will be working on our fleet more so when im done with my masters then dirtbikes will come into the mix

So, please clarify, are you looking for another track bike? Keep the SV as a track bike and get a different street bike?

You mentioned touring as a possible goal. What are your other plans for said new bike?

From a guy that has a lot of bikes, all with their own purpose, make sure you have a goal in mind for each one. It will make it a lot easier to choose which one to ride each day and you won't feel guilty leaving the others behind.

our SVs will be the only bikes seeing the track... our new bikes will be for street riding only... we usually ride anywhere from 2-8hrs on our bike in a day or even more... the goal is to have 2 sets of bikes so we have one track and one street. and we both are very interested in just having more then one bike to ride. but newbikes will NOT be on the track

If I was buying a new bike, I think it'd be an 800gs. The triumphs are silky smooth, I just need some more rumble in a bike.

If that's the case I'd stay away from the super sports. The only fun place I've ever been on a ss is the track or riding like an asshole. I'm with Sheepo on go for a sport tourer, up right for the distance, sport for the corners. IMO they're the perfect street bikes.

I love my Street Triple, but the class has taken off in the past few seasons. The FZ6, FZ1, Speed Triple, VFR, and F800ST are all great bikes.

imho: motards look cool, but are an entirely different animal...short gears, less power, not as ergonomic as a street bike...I want a motard, but because I already like dirt bikes.

If you are riding for 2-8 hours a motard shouldn't even be in the equation. I would stick to a sport standard. You got your monsters, tuonos, speed/street triples, I-4 jap nakeds.

And for what it's worth. The Z1000 is one super over angulated ugly bike in person.

My nekid Bandit was great. Only three things I didn't like about it were the fueling, lack of wind protection, and ergos. I should have thrown some money and effort at fixing the ergos and fuelling, but never did. The new ones are EFI anyway. (Mine was carb'ed.)

Mine was nekid and I'll never do a fully nekid again, unless it's a 2nd bike on the side. I should have gone for an S model from the beginning.

But they are affordable, bulletproof fun. And sounds like it should be on your list.

Just my opinion...As a small dude 5'8" 155lbs, my '11 848 is not so great on my back, neck or knees for any sort of distance riding. That being said it's by far the nicest bike I've owned to date. My gixxer 1K feels like a cruiser now since I bought the 848.

I would hold out to see what the new CRF250L looks like. Small, light dual sports can be a lot of fun. I am not crazy about the big ones, but I do own one (DR650).

I would also recommend that you take a good look at the Street and Speed Triple's as well. The 675r is very, very aggressive.

OUCH I am partial to the neked bikes and the Z has nice usable power, is unique and plenty of comfort. I would tend to believe from what I have read is it might be too tall for the OP though
