Bought a 2000 Honda VFR from a guy in Delaware. Flew down and rode it back (a month ago when it was still warm). Had a really good time ripping back up to MA. The bike needed some work done (it had been lowered so that was first to be remedied). Sometimes, and only sometimes but enough to be a pain in the ass, I stall it when launching in first gear. The clutch seems to be engaging fine but either I've lost too many brain cells which is impacting my ability to ride (which is possible) or something is amiss. I can sense when it is going to happen (there's an odd sound I can't really describe) and if I am quick enough to grab the clutch I can save it.
Anyway, I'm stuck on the Acela and bored, so I thought I would throw this idea out there for ideas.
Thanks.
Do you have your idle RPM set properly?
If all else fails, Lean more....
I think it's idling around 1k, but I am sure I would have noticed if it was too high or low (I can't recall as I sit here). Plus I did have a mechanic run through it so I'm sure he would have adjusted it if needed. It happens like maybe once out of every 25 launches, doesn't matter if the bike is warm or cold.
should try setting it to 1150 or so
If all else fails, Lean more....
yeah Brendamp is right, according to the manufacturer specifications the idle should be set at 1200+/- 100. I'd put it right at 1200 and see how it performs.
Cool - thanks. Someone on another board thought it might be a leaky vacuum hose - any validity there?

Try posting on sportbikes.net?
I'll third raising the idle to about 1200 and giving that a try first. That might help.
Although.... I'm sure it's possible, but I wouldn't think being only 200rpm off would cause an intermittant stalling problem.
If it doesn't work, shoot Degsy a PM linking him to this thread, see if he can help you out.
