I live on that street and go through that intersection 4 times a day!Grove has its share of loud Harleys and sportbikes but certainly no mre than anywhere else. I can't imagine what is going on in this sick fucko's head, but killing or maiming someone just because they made a little noise? WTF! Actually no one knows what the perp's motive is, I'm just guessing it's noise. If it was illegal off-road riding (which is non-existant in this area) then I would think the wire would be strung in the woods.
Anyhoo, it's good to see the police and press are taking this seriously. There was a news crew when I rolled throught the intersection and the camera guy pointed it at me and panned as I went by. I'm famous!

I'm guessing this person chose zip ties because they have a relativly low breaking point. Thus, it would be likely to seriously hurt someone and possibly not kill them. Then again, maybe its all he had around. Either way, its a sick thing to do.

That's a lot of flippin zipties! A quick check with the local hardware stores should help find the culprit.
I too think they would simply break if a biker hit them. They have strength when wrapped around something, but not so much in chain formation. the little plastic teeth just melt away under pressure. I wouldn't want to test my thoery though...

Depends on the brand of zipties. Whatever ones Pasta had at the track would pull apart if you looked at them funny, the bag of long black ones I carry would likely hold more than well enough to take a head off. :/

foam piece was just 1.6 lbs but its the energy involved is calculated by
its velocity squared.
So it was moving at 600 MPH at the time of impact that gives you a pretty big level of kinetic energy!

The fact that they turned themselves in goes in their favor. they would never have been caught. It also shows that they are not more mature than 13 or 14 in mind as any streetwise 14 year old would have laid low until everything blew over and forgotten about it.
Kids of 13 or 14 don't think about consequences like adults do. If they have clean records I hope that they just get some community service and a lesson in consequences.
HOPEFULLY the parents will punish them too.
