Yes Noel, I agree but also keep in mind that BMW was forced to adopt certain "traditional" parts and designs into their iteration of a full-on sport machine in order to make it competitive with the rest of the market.

$13,800 for the base model is pretty damn cheap for Euro hardware. I'd add the $1500 for race ABS and traction control, I dunno about $500 for gearshift assist. NICE bike and the MSRP is reasonable.
Other MSRPs for 1000cc sportbikes:
Gixxer: $12,899
CBR: $11,999 + $1000 for 'race ABS'
Ninja: $11,799
R1: $12,390

Another way to look at it is that the base BMW is $800 less than a Duc 848 and the loaded S1000RR is about the same price as a base model 1198.
