Hi there,
I am hoping to connect with women (pref) riders who don't mind taking a newbie under their wing for my first few weeks navigating a 2003 Kawasaki GSXR.
I know it's a big bike for a beginner but I'm also ok with looking like a dork and practicing for as long as it takes in parking lots and quiet streets.
I took an MSF course in Oct of this yr but would even hire a riding coach if they exist.
I live in Boston and am nervous but I'm also an unabashed safety nut so I'm not worried about not looking cool - I will take my time but would really like to meet ppl who don't mind hanging out with a new kid.
Any ladies (or men) have any thoughts?
I am looking at the bike I plan to buy this Sunday at 10am in Hyde Park. I'm trying to get my friend who knows bikes to come with me but she might be busy. Anyone have any thoughts on what to look at?
Anyway I appreciate any and all thoughts - happy riding and thanks for the help that this forum offers us newbies!
Dee
Welcome
And what kind of bike? Is it a Kawi or GSXR? You have 2 different bikes mixed into one in your description.
2018 Harley Road Glide
2000 Ducati 900ss
2003 Harley Softail Deuce
Glad u took my advice. Here's a vid that comes to mind for you're situation:

Welcome!
I bought my first bike while living in Boston, with no prior riding experience except the MSF. Day 1 was scary. I waited until 1am (weeknight) then went out and road for an hour on empty streets and did a few passes up and down 90 in Newton. I felt much better taking it out in traffic the next day.
Welcome, I'm Dana and I live in Cambridge. I'm currently recovering from a broken patella caused by my stupidity and a low slide.
I'd love to ride once I'm able though.

Ah, the Kawazuki GSXR1. A fine motorcycle. Quite popular with the craigslist crowd.

Are you new to living in Boston, or are you living in Boston and just new to riding? The former would require some time to acclimate to Boston drivers' habits before I would venture out onto city streets. The latter would simply require some time getting used to operating the controls at a fairly competent level, in my humble opinion.
What's the difference between a bolt and a screw?
First you screw, then you bolt.
I live in Boston (Savin Hill) and have been riding in and out for years. I wear a hi-viz jacket and white helmet just about all the time, and have adapted some other learned survival skills. Don't ride much this time of year but I still have the V-Strom in the garage so I could take a spin with you.
Don't be in a rush to buy a bike this time of year unless you know it's the bike you want, have a place to store it, and are getting a stupid good deal. Better to take advantage of winter sales to get good gear, and start looking in late March or April.

Welcome to NESR.
Don't mind the know-it-alls, the leg-humpers or the a-holes and you'll be alright.
(Basically, just ignore everyone. Myself included.)
As far as hiring a riding coach... your best bet is to continue your rider development with the available MSF programs, keep riding & keep practicing those exercises on your own time. I see you took the Beginner course but they also offer an Experienced Rider Course as well (ERC). It's essentially a slightly more advanced version of the second day of the Beginner course, but on your own bike.
Another possible option, IF Ken ends up offering again, is an educational group ride with our own Ken Condon. He led a ride with helmet-to-helmet communication with a few riders this past summer to help them with their street skills and I think he was looking to develop it into more of a program. I heard the students loved it. Not all that sure on the details though but if you're interested I can direct him to this thread.

But the weather is not conducive to much riding - see you in the Spring....Well this chick just joined...created 3 threads about the same thing in about 4 hours...and she has 4 posts total. So until she replies back, lets not add any more to this thread. I have a feeling shes not comin back but I hope Im wrong.
