So "the look and feel" are signifigant factors for a noob rider? Even if the bike is too big?

So since they are making 1000's feel like 600's I guess those ARE good starter bikes!

I'd have bought any one of those bikes then, and would like one even more so now for a track bike. If that helps your study.

    Kinda. Lets call it homework.

I bought my bike because it was shiny and I'm easily distracted like that and it was the right price! I would ride one of these though, and have considered buying an older used one to rag out... Even new at $3500 msrp is pretty good deal!

If I could get my mitts on one of these, I'd be a happy boy:

They have one of those at the Suzuki / Ford dealership here in Nashua, NH. And another at Razee in North Kingstown, RI.

They're Silver though. Both the same bike i think. GO GET IT!

Re: For those that bought a 600cc or bigger first bike...

When I started looking for my first bike it was all my so called expert friends telling me that anyone my size "HAS" to be on at least a 1000cc bike.

Thankfully I consulted my father and uncle who've both ridden in the past and they talked me down to a 600 (1995 ZX6r...6 years old at the time). Still too big really, but I was convinced my physical size and anything smaller just wouldn't work.

I think it's mostly looks. But the fact that before you're really in the "know" blazing straight line speed seems cooler then bending it in the twisties is part of it too.

I still catch shit from my brother in law. "No way you can have any fun on that little 600" Effum

This bike is a damn classic. Id rock it now with a huge smile on my face.

Id love to have that CBR400 as well.

The thing I noticed about bikes is the people that can ride usually buy smaller. On the street the smaller bikes can be just as fast as the bigger ones. Especially with most of the riding Ive seen us do. It just takes some people a little longer to figure that out.

Myself included. It took me about 12 years of street riding to figure it out plus 5 years of being in denial.

1/2 a season at the track and I knew I didn't need a big bike for anything more than 2 up trips.

Are you sure those weren't these?

The local Honda dealership up here has one too. They're 50cc singles built for the 2004 model year for club racing. Cool little bikes, but a far cry from the RC166 I put in my post (which had a 250cc inline-6 that revved to over 18k).

A customer of mine has 2 of these. One of them has like 30 miles on it and I believe it is on display down at Barber. He brought it to my shop just before it went to Alabama. It is pretty bad ass for an older small cc bike.

I wouldn't buy anything other than a literbike as a first bike. It's all about speed...a squid thing, I guess.
