Bought an 82' yz250 off ebay!

Hey guys first time post here! I bought this 82' YZ250 off ebay a while ago. Got it home & she didn't want to start. I'm not much of a mechanic as of yet so I let a buddy try to figure out why. Pulled the carb & replaced the jets. Also just cleaned it out real well. It was kinda mucky in there. Well that didn'y do a whole lot to help it start. I did get it started but it is gutless (no powerband). I checked the spark & it is almost nonexistent. After checking out more things I find my CDI ignition box is for a yz80? I'm thinking that is my problem. What do you all think? Thanks- Jamie

Really could be anything. Try a hotter plug. No powerband may be rings, did you check compression?

Check the ignition timing......
