OK, so that was cold -- 5*F (-15*C) riding in to work.
A personal record that is likely to stand a while.
The Monster was very reluctant to start at that temperature.
Carburetors. Harumph. Lots of choke.
My fingers got cold even with the heated gloves set on high.
And I got an "ice-cream headache" from breathing.
Nothing dangerous, but definitely uncomfortable.

What tires do you run? Every bike tire I see turns to plastic at those temps, giving authentic "big wheel" traction.

When was it -5° in Pittsfield at all this week?
I *think* Phil is out of town. Somewhere in the middle states (Kansas maybe) if I'm using my faceyspace to NESR decoder ring correctly.

Not everyone knows how to type the ° symbol, especially if on a mobile device.
Yes. I'm out of town. Working in St. Louis, MO, this winter.
Randy, I do know the standard shortcuts for many of the symbols, but they don't work on all devices.

Some people need a better hobby, and I am not referring to Phil.
That's some cold riding, I lose the ambition around 30F. I rode to a few hours up into ME once in the mid 20's. That was just not at all enjoyable, but it was before I installed the heated grips on the bike.

The degree symbol technically does not appear in that chart. ALT+176 is not the same as ALT+0176. You need the preceding zero. And while ALT-167 in that chart looks almost identical, it technically is a masculine ordinal indicator. But when they're that small, it's pretty much impossible to tell the difference.
iOS, press and hold the 0 to get the degree symbol. I'm betting it's the same on Android?
Re: Topic, that's impressive for a half hour. Lowest I think I've been able to go was ~25F in the dark for 35-40 minutes. No heated gear, but I was covered in many layers, and did my best to expose almost no skin. Wasn't worth it. Wouldn't volunteer for it again unless I pick up some heated gear.

Randy, subzero C° or F° or Kelvin°? Interesting that you could get your tires above boiling in that weather to make steam. You must ride like Satan himself. This is great, I can use my tire warmers to get ready for my ˝ mile commute!
For those interested, to display the degree symbol (248) or any of those commands in the table Randy listed, on a keyboard the NUM lock needs to be on, and use the numbers on the right side keypad, NOT the ones above the letter keys.

I think this was my coldest ride to work, last February

key is lowering the tire pressure, as I said, I lower the pressure to 28-30 but I weigh 300 geared up, a lighter person would probably need to lower the pressure even more, but not really any different than some riders do when they ride gravel, and you don't need to get the tire to boiling to see steam, all ya need to do is turn it to water vapor, like seeing your breath when you breathe
