That's a nice Piece.
It Is. Sadly it's what the 1Kr should already be. Not a limited model.

Yeah it's nice but for 17k that's outrageous. That's how the CBR1K should be normally. And to be competitive it needs electronics. It's very disappointing that Honda refuses to put R&D into electronics for their flagship superbike.
Fuckin awesome
Still looks like a dated bike compared the competition

I had an 08. Killer midrange that most of the others lack. Hondas are always easy to ride fast as well.

actually Honda says it doesn't need any of those electronics. They say the average rider can ride it as fast as the other's without the electronic aids because the chassis is that much better. I think the R&D is all done anyway. the HRC electronics have all the do-dads I think. they can easily adapt anything from RCV to the CBR if they really wanted.
I don't think 17k is all that bad. wasn't the R1SE from a few years ago something like 17k? and all they did was paint it yellow and add Ohlins. This one has hand picked connecting rods and pistons and hand assembled engine plus the Ohlins, Brembo and special subframe. I want it but not sure I'd go with it over an RSV4

That may be the case but the bottom line is it's down over 20 horsepower to the BMW and it's still about the same price/more expensive than the Bimmer. Plus the BMW comes with the electronic doo dads. I wish Honda wouldn't half ass their flagship superbike. Why not go all out and add more power and electronics? If the chassis is really that good then a 170 rwhp bike with Ohlins and electronics for 20k would be reasonable. Especially if it comes out and spanks the BMW or Aprilia. I think the bean counters at Honda have a little too much input at this time, and it's holding Honda back.
Honda will never get serious about its superbike. its crazy because they're always threatening to pull out of MotoGP if they can't make their own electronics.
I've ridden on 08 CBR1K and 10 S1000RR in either slick or race mode and I can tell you the CBR was way easier to go faster on.

Manufacturers have created a "need" for the electronic nanny. Just because a bike doesn't have it doesn't mean it's a bad machine. The nanny will relieve you of your skills. After riding a bike with it try & hop on a machine that doesn't have it. You'll be surprised how bad your skills have gotten. I loved my 08 & never once wished it had the nanny.

why what?
why won't Honda grow some balls? no idea. last time they did anything revolutionary on a street bike was the original 900RR. 20 years of nothing special, just really good overall bikes. BNG is their moto most of the time. Its odd because of the way they go about MotoGP. Every bit of technology they can think of they put on the bike but yet they never use it to sell a bike.
why did I like the CBR better? it felt like a slightly bigger 600 with a ton more power. the BMW felt huge and more difficult to ride even though it had great suspension added to it while the CBR had good suspension but set up for a rider of about 280lbs (160 more than me). Power and brakes were better on the BMW by far but that didn't help when I can't use them to their full extent. the CBR feels like "woah I am going way too fast for this corner, oh wait no I'm not that was easy" the BMW is "woah I am going way too fast for this corner, better hit the brakes. shit now I'm going way too slow"

Exactly why GP is not my favorite series. It's like the Hollywood of racing. Where all the $ is. If the manufacturers would spend money in the other series it would trickle into the showrooms MUCH faster. If you want to win in the other series you have to improve & with homologation rules we win too.

It is a fun bike. Comfortable is a word that seems to come up all the time describing the CBR1K.
I kept the question open because I was interested in your opinion on both topics. I think an interesting question is does the CBR have the maximum 'usable' power and the bikes with more only have to be electronically 'downgraded' anyway, or is Honda just being cheap and can they make a production 'nanny bike' with 20-30 more HP that is better than the current CBR?
I'm surprised the US CBR100RR SP doesn't even come with ABS.

People almost invariably arrive at their beliefs not on the basis of proof but on the basis of what they find attractive.

More power generally makes a bike more difficult to ride...just saying.

On the street it certainly doesn't matter if it puts out 150 or 170 RWHP. Your not going to use it anyway. Which is where the majority of these bike will be ridden.

I would imagine that the CBR is the easiest to ride. It's supposed to feel like a 600cc with more power. I still think Honda can squeeze more power out of that mill and still retain it's midrange.
I think Honda should shake things up & go with a V4 powered liter bike.

Honda and Suzuki have both been asleep in the motorcycle market for awhile now.
Whether you like it or not, how can either of their liter bikes compare to the hype of the new zx10, RSV4, s1000, 1199 or even the cross plane r1 (which isn't even that new anymore)? Seriously Honda (and Suzuki)... get off your asses and bring something new or interesting to the table.

I disagree. The street is the only place where all of that power will be tapped. (wrongly... but true). Highway shenanigans, rolling drags, standing start drags, even just winding out 4th or 5th gear to the top...
I've ridden tons of race tracks. Never have I been to one where there was enough room to wind out a liter bike.

No electronic aids is one of the allures. Isn't the K5 GSXR from 05 one of the sought after models just because of this? I've never owned one but I have heard that from more than one source.
I like it. Would I buy one? Don't think so.
