as some of y'all know, I'm looking to replace the Kat one of these days w/ something a li'l bigger... still comfy enough for all day, lotsa fun in the twisties... capable enough commuter. on my long-time list of contenders: VFR800 / RF900 / Sprint ST. recently added the ZX9 as a possibility. yesterday, saw a '98 CBR900RR for sale @ a local shop, and remembered that the original 'Blade was one of the bikes I drooled over during the time I was w/out a bike.
anyone here have much seat time on a 900RR? thoughts, opinions, prejudices, etc?![]()
howzit fit my wish list above? the little I've been able to find (so far) online seems to say that-- for an open-classer-- the '98 was pretty comfy, stable, light, predictable...![]()
WWSD? (what would Sneakers do?)

Heres a condom. I figured since youre acting like a dick, you should dress like one too.
dont discount the V-twin mafia just yet there dirt.
i think JC has a super sticky sweet TL that you might be able to get if you act fast.
after a tunnel ride you may not be able to get it from him anymore.

Sounds like you mostly want a Sport Tourer and the RR is probably going to be a lot less comfy than your Kat or a S-T bike.
I feel the same way. Logically I know I want a VFR or something similar for my next bike... but part of me also wants a superport type bike just for the impracticality/sexiness, etc...
Ben
which is, of course, why everyone needs multiple bikes...

Is what I had, and it was the best all-around bike I owned. VERY comfy for long rides, sweet engine with plenty of power, and stable handling. If it's in good shape, you can't go wrong.

Not to mention they are great for stuntin', and we all know you can't go anywhere without at least one wheel in the air....Originally posted by Blade

thanx, Eric... that's the impression I've been getting... sorta like a slightly burlier VFR in manners, 'cept it's inline instead of vee...Originally posted by Blade

I heard the cbr 900 RR is the best wheelie bike![]()
I had the bike for a couple years. It was actually pretty good with a pillion - much better than an F3 or RC51, not as good as a CBR1100. It tends to fall in the corners a little quicker with a passenger, but it works well regardless.

Best wheelie bike, but you must make oil pick-up mods...
The 929 is sweet too.

Too old to rock and roll, too young to die.
Finally figured out how to get 2nd gear with the front end up. It is sweeeet! Much more easily controlled in 2nd, landings are less severe also. Very first 1-2 wheelie was maybe 100 yards or so. Me like it! Now I have to resist that urge to do after every single take-off.
I'm thinking I better get an off-road for bike for hooliganism before I get into too much trouble. Darn cops take all the fun out of having fun.![]()

What I did was bring it up in 1st, then shift to 2nd. That's the first time that I have successfully shifted while in a wheelie! And, yes I can easily bring it up in 2nd using the clutch, not quite off just throttle though (unless there is a rise or something to give it that little extra push upward), it will wheelie off the clutch in 3rd also.
I don't really like to bring it up in 2nd using the clutch though because it is moving along pretty fast where the RPM are high enough to do it. Even yesterday shifting to second I was doing 60 something when I let it down, but building to that speed is different tnat picking it up at that speed. At this point that still scares me.
I think that if I change to a 17 tooth front sprocket it will lift the front end in 2nd without any clutch. This is a pretty common mod among Daytona owners. I am seriously considering the change to a smaller front sprocket, but am afraid that 1st gear would become useless and that it will turn too many revs at comfortable interstate speed - I like it where it is gear now for my commute on the highway.

Did you have to go to a shorter chain, or were you able to adjust out the slack? If so, How much adjustment do you have remaining after doing it?Originally posted by T-595 Greg
I put a 17 on the front of my Daytona (1998) and after this weekend I gotta say I love it. I picked up about 500 rpm on the highway, and I can live with that. Fuel mileage seems about the same so far, but the best part is the engine seems to stay in the "sweet spot" all the time....

I did the 17 tooth as well and agree with Greg...
First gear around town is a little short, but who cares. It's alot smoother taking off from a stop.
Not sure what the set up is on the 02+ Daytona's, but it's a great and cheap mod to the older generation bikes.

You talked me into it! I had ordered a 17, then found out that the DSSA version has a 19 stock front. Had to cancel the order for the 17 & get an 18... I'm psyched for 2nd gear power wheelies!

"You never see a motorcycle parked outside of a psychiatrists office"
Its a 19/44, which ratio-wise compares well with your stock 18/42 setup. According to the folks on T595.net this has something to do with the clearance of the chain on the SSSA vs. the DSSA. I dunno, but I think that the change from a 19 to a 17 would have been way too radical. Because of the difference in rear sprockets, I will see a little less of an affect than you do with one less in the front. Most people with '02 DSSA models also go up one in the rear, but I will wait on that mod until I have a reason to pull the rear wheel off.
The sprocketspecialists site incorrectly states 18 std for my bike, which made it all the more confusing.
Anyway, they are supposed to ship it out today, maybe I'll have it before the long holiday weekend!

Well I'm certainly not seeing any 2nd gear power wheelies (unless I'm not trying hard enough), but then again you have about 20 hp on me.
