I understand! So basically I don't want to be unnecessarily leaning the bike over when I can use my body weight, but I don't want to be throwing too much body weight off the bike when I could use more lean. I want to be using a little of each, and maybe a little more of the other depending on the situation (ex: In the rain where you want to keep the bike more upright, and have your body come off more, keeping the meatier parts of the tire on the ground with more contact.)
Obviously when racing or riding very aggresively on the track, you would be using a large portion of both to get the most out of every corner?
side note: I see more street riders not hanging off enough than I see hanging off too much.
... and I edited my post above with some more points after you quoted me.

Hey, no comments from the peanut gallery. 1st she doesn't control me (can't say the same for you once you say I DO) and 2nd she would actually want me to go because the more i learn the better and safer i can be.
And by the way, she actually got on the back of the bike yesterday and i drove her around the high school lot for about 10 mins! she was loving it and it made her all excited!!! (if you know what i meanbow chicha bow ba)

I always get a kick out of these threads. I didn't respond when I first read this post because I think Ceo said it best: "Chicken strips mean nothing. The principal reasons street riders don't have chicken strips are because of shitty body position and riding in a manner that the street doesn't warrant."
Hey im still a noob but im working on my body position alright, ill learn a few tips and tricks on my first trip with you guys i hope maybe even get some comments.
just do what i do - buy race take offs and pretend you did all the wear on your own.

Could it be a possibility that i'm pretty short and have a short inseam that the bike would probably be leaned over all the way before i knee drag? Just curious cuz im about 5'7 or so with a 30 or 31inseam, i also only weigh around 130 so.
Cool good to know then.
Need fresh ones? I've got a bunch lol
See my avatar. I'm short... 5"8' with short legs (probaby 29 or 30 inseam) and higher rearsets (woodcrafts are up and back 1 inch from stock) which also increase lean angle required to drag knee... so it's obviously possible basically no matter who you are.
However, I disagree with Doc... this does mean you have to lean the bike over MORE to drag knee... but if you get to the true max lean angle, your knee will be down whether you are 5'0" or 6'6"
Also, most people try too hard to drag knee at first, i.e. not leaning the bike much and hanging off a lot... then realize they don't need to... then they get their cornerspeeds and lean angles up to the point where they drag knee without trying.
haha and there we have it.
fuckin' right![]()

Very nice explanation. I did watch a video that showed you only need your cheek off the seat a little bit, not crazy hanging like everyone thinks.
For the majority of bikes, I line my asscrack up with the edge of the seat for the most part. I.e. one cheek on, one cheek off.
More important than butt movement is the arms. Drop/lead with the inside shoulder and keep the arms loose. Lead with your head/sight as well, although different techniques can prevail. (watching greenwood and narbonne race really shows the differences in techniques)
Inside elbow should be dropped and bent/loose, not stiff/straight. Outside arm is relaxed and resting on the gas tank.
