Hey guys...
So i've been building a whole custom frame and all that jazz out of my 86' donor bike: a Vs700 suzuki intruder!
Bonuses: v twin, shaft drive, and that's about it haha.
Draw backs: Can't find a front cylinder jug anywhere!!!
For those who remember, here's what it started like:
Rusted up and seized front cylinder:
New frame:
the PLANS!
The VISION:
If anyone knows someone parting out a Vs700, I NEED A FRONT CYLINDER JUG!!!!!! please guys!!!!
Right now, the front wheel has zero trail. I need to raise the front and bring the wheel back in to get the trail to about 2" negative (for those who know what trail is! heh heh)
But yep, i've fabricated everything on the biek so far except for the tank, wheels, and driveshaft. I've rebuild the engine still need a cylinder jug though.lots of little odds and ends and details to work out.
Enjoy~~~~

Long wheel base than your car...
Friends don't let friends wave to Can Ams
Why can't you bore the cylinder to oversize? If Suzuki doesn't make an oversize piston, Wiseco probably does.
That project is cool as hell. Looks REALLY long!
nice job with the frame... looks great.. have fun turning that long ass thing....

i'm sorry. i'm just alittle baffled by this project. it looks like a 30K custom chopper build...but the donor bike engine is worth about 17.50.
i think the custom chopper people are going to laugh at you.
seems to me you could build something more unique with that donor bike.
love it, good work. find a better motor. shit even a 1200 sporty motor would be better.
Although I am not a chopper guy, I love to look at garage-built home-made projects. The "Professional" stuff just does not light my fire like home bulids do.
I always wanted to stuff an EX500 motor in an XR600 or XR650 frame...or a Ninja 250 motor in a CR frame.
whats everyone's beef with my engine?! I think i have a total of about 500$ into this thing...
When my bike gets more attention at a show than that $50,ooo custom chopper, i'll be laughin my a$s off!
A wesico piston custom made for this engine is about 600$. they have to "engineer" it. To oversize it is not my opinion of budget haha... I'll just find a cylinder for cheap, and throw my brand new OEM pistons and new rings in it that i already bought!
I'll love it when the harley guy pulls up and his ignorance says "Nice bike".... and i'll be like, yea, it's a suzuki... i paid less for this whole bike than you did for your chrome job!!!!!
muahahahahahaha

i'm sorry. i think it's really cool that you are building your own bike. it's something i always wanted to do as well.
i just don't think another cookie cutter chopper built on a budget stands a chance of stealing the show at a custom chopper contest. i would think something more unique would stand a better chance.
anyways, it is a cool build and i hope you will keep us updated.
oh and yes...i'm a dick but an honest and upfront one.
needs more motor. Right now it looks like a ZX-14 with a EX250 mill in it (not literally but in terms of size)
Great job
I still got those brake calipers if ya want them
cheers
eat me
not my style personally but kudos to you for going against the grain.
Good work man. I wish I could find THAT kinda motivation. Not quite my thang, but I can appreciate it the work...
There's some dude up here that fab'd his own chopper, but he used an inline UJ motor. Funny as shit to see this rig coming down the road at ya and you're expecting to hear some rediculously loud American V-twin, yet all you hear is Gixxer 750!
Did you grit your teeth and try to look like Clint Fuckin' Eastwood?
Or did you lisp it all hangfisted like a fuckin' flower?
Working on such a low budget, you'll spend more time looking for cheap parts. I hope your time is worth it. Did you call all the junk yard shops and bike shops in the area? Checked the intruder forum? This time around (spring) there should be more chances to find a blown engine or crashed bike.
How bad is the rust? Can it be cleaned either mechanically or electrochemically?
I like the look, despite that frame looks pretty "airy", it accents the minimalist approach. I'd skip the paint job and just sandblast the frame and clear coat it. It would come up grayish, but it would be cheaper too. In any case, you are not going to compete with those ridiculous customs, so you might as well stay in the niche of rat choppers. I doubt that Leno is going to call you to get the bike. It looks cool, but it does not looks like an expensive custom.
The other thing, you said that you mig welded the frame ... I don't know how good of a welder you are and what you used for materials, I have the same Lincoln. Well, usually the frames are tig welded and that frame with so much flex will put more stress on weld joints. Unless you welded all your life and you are not young, I'd have someone with experience look at them joints before putting your body on that bike.
Give Seacoast Cycle in Newburyport, MA a call. They've got a ton of old bikes just sitting out back for parts, it's like a mini motorcycle junkyard. Or, if you're in the area, just swing by. You'll most likely run into Tim, the owner (dude in his late 50's, a bit heavy set) or Kevin (black hair, 30's). Tell either one Dan K, the dude who used to work behind the windmill, races the EX @ Loudon, and has the KX125, sent you. They'll take care of you.
~The rust is real bad. As in scaling.
~I'm an excellent welder. If i can weld anything from 22 gauge sheet metal to boat trailers and off road bumpers and winch mounts, i trust my welding for this bike.
And i weld with gas, not fluxcore mig (garbage popcorn).
But even with fluxcore, my welding is better than most Tig guys hahahaha.
And thanks Dan K, i'll give him a call.
ALso guys, the frame looks "Airy", but there's still a radiator, carbs, intkae, exhaust, wiring, headlights, battery, electronics, and side covers still to go on. All it is right now is engine block, shaft drive, and frame :-P
Sheesh, critics hahaha.
pm me and let me know exactly what you need fo r parts.. i have some connections at some salvage places around the country... i should be able to find you something

cool project, however your execution looks pretty poor. Frame looks way too big for the motor, nothing wrong with using the drive train you got, but size the rest of the stuff accordingly. Think proportions.... From what I see it looks too wide and too long.
Your front suspension linkage piece looks cheap, looks like you just got a piece of 1x steel from home depot and punched a couple holes in it.
Whether the custom guys are going to laugh at you is besides the point. Cool project, budget builds are always cool. But for the love of god, please dont cobb it together or it will look like a budget build. Check out Jockey Journal for inspiration and fab tips
