    Use it or "chuck" it?

I had a little incident recently during a TTD where my bike and I got separated.

My helmet grazed the ground and took off the outer paint. I had Tyler check it out and he checked both the shell and inner styrofoam and said it was ok to use that day.

From the picture below, should I get a new helmet? There is no damage to the foam. It's just the outer layers.

My gut says yes to buying a new helmet. There are a few layers gone.

    Thoughts?

    shoulda made this a POLL!

safety should be your first concern when it comes to MC at a track or anywhere for that matter ..... don't have to be Doc to know that one. it would make a good back up

Marks from the asphalt of the raised curb I scraped in T6.

Yes. Both TTD (Tyler's close inspection) and BMTD passed it for tech.

yeah, I'm not the poll-master though and I didn't want to get 50% "Beet is Nekkid" or "Bemused" answers.

Good plan. Keep the Jolly Roger as a backup and buy a new lid as a primary.

Re: Use it or "chuck" it?

I wouldn't give advice on whether to use a helmet that has been in a crash.

I would be willing to tell you whether I'd use it or not.

I would have to see it 'live' however...pictures don't tell the whole story.

    It's you're head...you're choice...you're decision. Tough call, eh!?

if you wear it will "is this helmet safe?!?!?!" be ringing around in your head the entire time? If so, chuck it...not worth the anxiety and distraction imo

Send it to Arai for evaluation and pick up a new one. Let the mfg tell you whether it's good. If it is, you have a great backup...if not, you already have a new helmet.

No, since I did a 3 hour ride with it on and didn't think about it once.

if it passes tech and and doesnt make you nervous it is probably fine...esp for a backup...

but I would def. take the advice and send it in..i've heard of people getting new helmets in return...could be an urban legend but may be worth a shot...

Fack! Put some fricken duck tape on the SOB!

It is a universal law that once duck tape is applied, it will never get rashed or hit in that location again.

One of my X11's has a similar rash and I still use it. I put a dragon sticker on it!

The blue shoie in this pic was only worn for a few thousand miles, and less than a year old.

Similar scuffs (both side though). Never used it since that crash.

I think you only have to pay shipping one way. Best to get it checked out if you are in doubt.

Re: Use it or "chuck" it?

Well, I opted for a new helmet. I picked up another RX-7, but the Tommy Gun this time, since I can't seem to find another RX-7 Jolly Roger in large. (I don't like the flat black the new Corsair V Jolly Roger has.)

I know the Tommy Gun is an older design, but I've always liked it. It's manufacture date is 9/2008, so it's less than a year old.

I would get a new one and save that as a backup or whatever

Yeah, see above. I just bought another RX-7. I'm going to send the Jolly Roger back to Arai for inspection, once I have the new one.

You should buy a new helmet. Ever see the "tommy gun" design by arai? It's pretty nice.
