FWIW; I've had more entertainment on my FZ1 than any bike I've owned or ridden over the years, and I've ridden a few different bikes.

Something about being comfortable, dragging a knee and lofting the front in the air while getting 45+ mpg is my kinda fun....that and cheap insurance and 200 miles to a tank doesn't hurt either.

But I understand where you might be getting lost....."fun" = "lower fairings"

No, I have never ridden any of the bikes you have mentioned. I really like the looks of the speedtriple and FZ1 though .

I have no doubt that they are quite entertaining but, what I guess I'm looking for is a newer version of my 94' CBR 900rr. Thanks for all the input.

Before my house ends up surrounded by a pack of non-lower fairing bikes let me clarify a little. I have nothing against naked bikes or women for that matter.

I have a CBR 600 F4i and 100RR. No complaints. After watching the Yamaha show last night, I'd probably try an R1 next. As for those who used the word "comfortable" with sportsbikes...are you kidding me?

    Re: open class sportbikes

sportbikes are like women in a way .... some you fit in .... some you fit on ..... some just drag you around. Choose your poison and be 'comfortable'

so yeah my 1K RR was extremely comfortable in all phases. (sport touring, two - up, track days, and slab straffing, canyon carving, .....etc)

most ppl that find a bike un-comfortable are doing it wrong

    Re: open class sportbikes

I had a silver gixxer 1k back in 2003. That bike was AWESOME. Rode 954s, that z-10r, and a RC-51. I liked the gixxer the best. There is a reason it was the best sportbike out those years. But, I also really like the RC-51. There is a cool factor about that motor that the gixxer just doesn't have. The bike truly has a lot of character. For me, it would be a toss up between the RC and the Gixxer.

I would love to but, my piggy bank isn't what it used to be. Unless of course you meaning robbing my daughters collge fund, hmmm!

The sound alone almost has me sold, granted I have yet to hear one in person.
Maybe if a certain person actually rode there's out from the bubble they store it in.

You're welcomed to try it if you'd like

No more bubble for me, living on a dirt road puts clean bikes on the back burner

    Re: open class sportbikes

I'll add a new one to the list.

    2003 ZX9r

Throw on an aftermarket seat and it could be one of the more street friendly "sportbikes" in that range.

    http://www.motorsports-network.com/k...R03/ZX9R03.htm

They are harder to find (I got lucky and found a mint one), but a great street bike - solid, responsive, great pull at lower RPMs (I normally ride in the 4-5k range on the street). Not a lot of shifting needed for a good street ride. I commute to work occasionally (which up until recently was an 80 mile day) and it's a great highway bike if you want. At 410lbs dry I don't get tossed around much at all.

It's also been lots of fun at the track. I find NJMP to be a more friendly track for it but I ran Loudon last year and it was certainly the rider causing all the problems

I bought a 00' ZX-9r new, great bike. Did a couple of track days and I put 8K on it from fathers day until I put it away in November.

    Re: open class sportbikes

Here's a little open class without the fairings..

A great bike overall, but I'm doing a Connie14 next week. This one's a little more open class than my wrist will handle.. Sucks to be an old fuckah, cause this one turned out to be a pretty cool bike by the time I dumped 2 grand MORE into it after I bought it a month ago. Dunno if it's as fast as a Connie, but it IS a 100 lbs lighter.

Oh, this is my Connie, but I'm gonna get the ABS, in spite of my previous proclamations.

Your just still upset that my little 899cc made more HP on the same dyno than your R1.

I think if'n you remember correctly, it was more like your 899cc made just a bit more hp than my 749cc

I can input that it was BRUTAL riding my RC-51 1.5 hours up to loudon, then 2 hours back. it was about the limit of what I could take.

    Re: open class sportbikes

I went from owning the GSXR for 2 years to the RC51 for 3 years now and now I have another inline 1000cc (the MV Agusta) for my second summer.

GSXR= smooth, fast and easy to ride.
RC51= WAY cool, but 30 to 45 mins is all I can handle. This bike tries to hurt you...
MV= this bike tries to kill you!

I would go for the CBR1k if I were you. Love my RC, but it truly is not for everyone....

I need to go sit on a RC-51 and see how bad it is. Heli stopped making bars for it, so that my be a problem.

Why didn't you buy this!!!! I have an 03, and my boss has an 02 that he bought from Hobbs, and they are awesome! However, for what you want, this would be your best choice, IMHO. 2005 Aprilia Tuono.

More comfy than a 1000RR, more usable power, ROCKS at the track, and has that Twin sound and character!
You can find them from 03-05 for $3-6k (some are pretty hooked up) a few people on the Aprilia forum have been posting up there 06-07's too. Oreo has one and he loves it. Very versatile motorcycle.
