I personally believe that modified R6s/GSXRs/etc and the other bigger bikes such as Ducati 1100, Buel 900, Bimota 1000s, etc dont really belong in the same class as the 650s. Maybe seperate them by have them run a class up or create the Mini Twins 650 class (like AMA, TT, etc). WERA seems to allow them in some SB classes but certainly not in SS.
Just trying to see how others feel about it. Not bitching, just expressing my opinion, regardless I will be gridding up and racing no matter what I am against on the grids.
Lol. I personally want a destroked 545 r6 to run in lw. You know how much more effort those take to ride right?

Hp isn't everything. Hp is a function of torque at a certain rpm. The 545 R6 has a very peaky powerband much like a 2 stroke. Midrange is non existent. You have to be on it to get that peak power out of it and it's for a short time while an sv or ex has a broader power curve. Major difference being one has a real chassis and suspension.

it seems like a lot of organizations consider LW a Twin 650 class. and I agree with that. Call it that if you want. Make a new class if you want.
But I believe there should be a class for OEM 650 bikes. AMA does it on their Amateur series, thats how the TT, Manx and other European/UK races are set up. I say either put make those bikes race in other classes and leave the LW for the OEM 650s or make a Mini Twins (OEM 650) SS and SB class.
No use discussing it imo. The destroked 4 cyl has me all hot and heavy after seeing them this weekend.

I dont think 125s and 250s should be LW. they are GP bikes.
EX500, FZR400s, Hawks, etc are Ultralight bikes.
Mini Twins is the class I am hoping to see in the near future. a SS and a SB one.
Where would the gp. bikes go then?
There aren't enough of them for their own class.

What are these destroked 4 cyls?

Pretty sure someone makes a short-stroke crank for a Ducati 848 too. I seem to remember seeing a bike like that on WERA classifieds
Expert lw. They are 06+ R6 with custom cranks, cylinders, rods, etc to bring them down to 545. They are akin to riding a 2 stroke. They are approx 80hp from what I've heard.
John Grush and Jerry Randall? had one?

At 80hp I don't see then having a huge advantage?

I think 125 is ul and 250 (2 stroke) is lw.

so in theory you do
Moto 3 and 125/250 class: 2 classes for the GP bikes to play
Ultralight Thunderbike and 250 class: Class for the CBR 250 and Ninja 250. The 300s and 390s and all that maybe can join. I dont know much about those bikes anyways.
Mini Twins Supersport and Superbike: OEM 650 bikes, SV650s, Hawks, EX650s, chinese Knock off 650s.
Lightweight Supersport. Keep us as is with no OEM displacement over 999cc
Lightweight Superbike: Keep as is, Ducatis, Buels, Bimotas all welcome.
LWGP: all can play, destroked busas, jet planes with one jet missing, etc.
I honestly don't see anything broke with the current classes.

You don't need to go custom to destroke an 848, Duc cranks swap across a scary range of years. Find a 400ss if you want to make a SCREAMER short stroke quacker.
Sav, you can always build an ULSB if you don't wanna go against bigger twins. You'll be facing 805cc air cooled Ducs at worst.
i dont understand how you see 650s and 1000s belonging in the same class. or even 125/250s and 1100 in the same class. lol
