Over the past two years, my '03 SV1000S developed a pounding through the bars that was directly dependent upon engine rpm. There used to be a "sweet spot" at around 4,000 rpm, but even that had gone. I think Mark B. (TLRman) was right on when he postulated that it was a crank bearing (side clearances were a rare, but known issue).
This past January, I picked up an SV motah from MaxSalvage via Argo Cycles in Raymond. (Thanks to Scott622 who put me in touch with Tyler at Max.) I didn't like the looks of the valves, so I decided to swap the heads from the original motor.
It took a while, but I got the original motor out, and began the swap over.
I took bunches of reference pictures to supplement the shop manual, and eventually got the original heads on the replacement motor.
So, two weeks ago, I got the motor in the frame. Last week I had it running and needed to replace the gasket at the front cam-chain tensioner. Today, I road-tested it and got it inspected.
Ready to RIDE!

I can resist everything but Pete's mom.
Thanks! Might do those brake lines next weekend, too.
Looks good! Love the copper SVs.
My '06 has a "knock" after it warms up, but everything I've read over at the SV-portal forums say it's not life-threatening. Nonetheless, I might follow your lead with a teardown one of these days...

Thanks! Just wait 'til she's fully dressed....
Yeah, I did a lot of research on the "knock" on the SV forums, too. This was definitely not that, and it was getting worse as time went on. Sure glad I got it remedied, though!
