I think it might be easy to think about cost per lap, especially coming from track days. I went right to racing so I never really took that into account. If it bothers someone that much, racing might not be for that person!
I am not even going to think what my cost per lap at Phillip Island was! The amount would be so ridiculously high, but even if I did figure it out, I would still do it again! But yeah....not going to do the math lol!

Ok rough estimate....costs of airfare, FIM License, fuel, insurance, etc...It came to about $117 a lap! And worth every penny! Not as bad as I though it would be tell you that truth.

ya...it's for fun, and it's all relative
some people only get their rocks off driving ferrari's for recreational track days...
I also do MX out here...there are 2 tracks within an hour's drive, milestone has 5 different tracks there, and perris has a few too IIRC...it's roughly $30/day...drive a bit further and there are even more tracks (that are also ~$20/day...sometimes $15/day)
but mx doesn't really compare to mini-moto for me because of the pavement vs. jumping deal...you can make mini moto a lot like roadracing...and for MX I always fall a LOT more...and either end up permanently hurting some joints or ending up in the hospital every other trip
hit me up when you do your westernly trip and you can try it yourself!
take this bike!
now...if only I could figure out a way to have "passive income", so I can bump down to part time, then just ride supermoto/canyons/mx/trails 3-4 times/week!
