I don't know about that man. I think it may be time to start scouring EBay for a new motor. I wouldn't trust a welded block...

    Re: Crack in Block!!!

It is cracked because??? If he left water in it and it froze and cracked get a new motor. I'll bet dollars to donuts it's cracked internally too.

the crack is right by the cover about 2 inches deep im guessing. will post some pics to get some more feedback. a new motor would cost 500~ so even if thats what it comes down to the bike will be 1600+500=2100 spent, which to me is still quite the a deal.

    you don't "snort" crack-cocaine

edit: and oh - if you're willing too buy a new motor, I'd JB weld that one til it dies (not sure fi jay was kidding or not) but JB weld works well on cracked blocks - auto and bike. I'd pull it out and see where the crack goes to make sure the "repair" wasn't in vane.

no springs... the other cam lobe forces the valve closed.

i presumed you were joking, as per your norm..
but the desmo valve system uses one lobe to open the valve and another lobe to pull the valve closed and a very light spring usually to hold it to its seat

    Re: Crack in Block!!!

Update!:ok so got this bike running after stopping the leak. but it does still have a drop or 2 coming out of the cover which sucks....but im just gonna live with it for now till i get a new motor i guess. but the thing that im confused about is when i drained out all the coolant and put some new honda stuff in and started up the bike for the first time since i bought it last week. runs good. but as the coolant heated up and all the bubbles get pushed out through the cap alot of crap started coming up to the top. very dark mud like oil and i think i even saw some metal shavings for like a sec not 100% on that thou. im guessing there are many things wrong with the motor including a crack in the block. what would your plans be? pics can be found here.

    Re: Crack in Block!!!

Sounds like the crack is internal, allowing combustion pressure and oil to push into the cooling system.

    Re: Crack in Block!!!

The block cracked because it overheated. That's why you also have a head gasket leak. My guess judging by the paintwork is that it happened during an extended burnout.

    Time for a new motor.

    Re: Crack in Block!!!

Pull the head and carefully examine the head gasket for a channel from combustion to oil/coolant

    then discard
