I went out for a day trip ride on Sunday to take advantage of the great weather, and some free time. I chose random turns, using what appeared to be lesser used state roads, taking me from "metrowest" MA then into CT and then into southern CT.
On my return, I found CT 49 starting in Stonington heading north. The section from Stonington to the intersection with 138 was worth the trip (one of the better roads I have ridden in eastern CT.) I continued on 49 until the end somewhere around Sterling CT. The section after was 138 was good as well, but more gentle sweepers than in the southern section.
FWIW to those who may want to check it out.
For me, it was a good find simply by taking turns that are less familiar!
49 is a nice road. Narrow and scenic. Not really worth the ride for me to put it on the "fun roads" list but it's worth the detour if you are in the area.

Was it the bike in your avatar? I was in the area as well and saw a similar bike as yours, with another one. Forgot exactly where I saw the bikes, but whoever it was looked at us as we rode by...Red/white R1 and a Orange KTM dirtbike.
49 south of 138 is nice if you hit it with no traffic. You were close to one of the funnest and shortest sections of twisties in the area, have a look at 201 next time![]()

Yup. That could have been me. I was riding on my own most of the time, but found myself in the midst of a couple of cruisers for 5-10 miles. I do recall seeing a KTM. Could you have been in northeastern CT and/or northwestern RI? IIRC, I saw a KTM southwest of Douglas MA by 10 miles or so.
We were in eastern Ct for a bit, but never went more north than rt 14 and 12 intersection

Some good roads off it as well. 201 as R7 said and grindstone/hangman/Chester main/ryder(or wyassup or reutemann) are good roads off 49 south of 138/165. If you take Ryder then head up rte 2 near Foxwoods to 214. 214 has some really fun turns ending at rte 12.

I just moved to Providence and will be traveling to and from Hartford regularly. Are any of these worth the detour?
