That's not quiet the problem. Law abiding riders are being ticketed for everything under the sun. Pulled over for 35 in a 30? Tickets for license plate, insurance, blinkers, and everything else. The speed limit lowered from 40 to 30? That many patrols on the 11 mile stretch of road, all with vehicles pulled over every time you see them. Hell, when you go there you'll know the majority of people on that road are riding well within their means, and most are not speeding at all. You can drag a knee on most major curves on the gap without braking the speed limit. Some people may try to speed up or hang a corner better for the pictures, but I don't think the majority do. I think the enforcement level and the stories about the cops attitudes and behavior are overboard. And it's too bad they are ruining/have ruined a historic place like that.
It's all water under the bridge, and we do enter the next round-robin. Am I wrong?
Finally .... ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Someone got it!
Thanks Jay for bringing in a little sanity here!
BTW, why don't we all take up a collection to send Kham over there?![]()

Not to be a stickler, but 35 in a 30 is still not obeying the posted limit, modded blinkers and plates are almost never done with in legal limits same with exhaust... do we all do it sure... that again is not the point. And i am willing to bet that dragging knee at any speed fall under unsafe operation violations of some sort... no different then riding a wheelie at posted limits...

Jay, I hear ya. Next time we go it'll be great fun like it always is. I saw the crackdown coming a mile away though. It's obvious when you ride it on a weekend how overrun it is with both responsible and non-responsible people.
We've always kept the Gap to be a two day or less per week ordeal and had plenty of fun.

Agreeing with you makes him crazy yesand fixed for the grammar police, but can we get a real police opinion in here?
Anyway I bet if i was dragging knee at any legal speed on any given road and a cop saw me I would get ticketed for something. Where are the forum cops when you need them.

Nah ... the definition of insanity is expecting different results with the same behavior.
Several here have already pointed out that you need to visit the place before becoming an authority on it!![]()

Funny I don't see that listed in any of these definitions
#
1. Unsoundness of mind sufficient in the judgment of a civil court to render a person unfit to maintain a contractual or other legal relationship or to warrant commitment to a mental health facility.
2. In most criminal jurisdictions, a degree of mental malfunctioning sufficient to relieve the accused of legal responsibility for the act committed.
#
1. Extreme foolishness; folly.
2. Something that is extremely foolish.
Why its just a road. Where this is going on is not the problem.

14 cruisers in 11 miles.
Let me see here ...
Winter ... November to April ... what's that 16 to 20 weeks of not having to patrol.
14 cruisers for what ... 2 weeks now? That is 28 weeks
With the amount of money that was spent here, they could of taken 2 cruisers and stationed them at the Gap permanently for most of the year.
14 cruisers in 11 miles for 2 to 3 weeks is a blatant waste of taxpayers money, a media event and a money grab.
2 cruisers permanently stationed at the gap would effectively manage the unruly and stupid riders.
Here is a FACT ... 2 accidents with three fatalities happened DURING their watch. Accident scene investigation showed that it was driver error for the first fatality, he was NOT speeding and for the second accident, it was driver error again.
There was NO photographer present for grandstanding.
Plus we have now TWO tractor trailers that went off the road totally.
NO tickets were issued for crossing the double yellow line.
The THP does not have a stellar media reputation ...
Blow jobs from porn princesses ... blowing away the family dog with a shotgun during a traffic stop while all the kids and parents are handcuffed and watching.
THP is not known for balanced decisions.
That is the problem. Attack the local businesses that are over the state line where they don't get any revenue from ... smell like dirty politics to you?
If they were really concerned about the biker problem ... do you think that there are much better ways of handling it?
BTW ... Albert Einstein came up with that definition.
And if you think it through, you will see the truth in it.
Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

Einstein, who's that...
While a cutely contrived quote... simple put, we are not machines and Einsteins definition while deep, fails to take in to account external influences.

There are probably 10 different offenses a cop can write you for draggin' knee in a corner.
Probably 5 different criminal codes cover draggin knee while over the yellow line and speeding, or any combination of those.
Having photographs of criminal activity and knowing the name/nickname or address of the perpetrator is accessory after the fact and failure to report criminal activity. It might even be construed as conspiracy to commit by a broadminded prosecutor because the photographer is ready and waiting for the shot and the rider knows where he is.
Very hard to get it to stick I would say, but it is still a chargeable offense if the THP want to be assholes.
By the way, I don't like heavy-handed police tactics either, but quoting people dying in traffic accidents 45 and 65 miles away from the gap is clutching at straws.
This might seem absurd to some of you, but the Highway Patrol gets it's ass kicked for the amount of fatalities and vehicular accidents that occur on it's roads. They are judged on that.
If you have people regularly crashing/dying/maiming themselves on the same 11 mile stretch of road, you bet your ass they are eventually going to try to get over there and "thin out the herd" by discouraging the problem types from going there.
They visually checked out the people riding by and picked out the ones they thought might be squids and ticketed them. Seems fairly normal cop activity to me.
Just my opinion
