Goes right along with my Galfer rotors score back in July. (yeah, they're slightly warped, but they don't bother me at all. It just pulses a little.)
I scored a used Scotts top-mounted steering damper for $100, shipped from a guy on one of the RR forums. It's an older member (from 2005) and they have a trader system on that site, similar to eBay's feedback system, so you can tell if someone has ever f*cked anyone on parts or bike sales.
The damper has been on a bike that's been sitting for a couple of years, so it'll need to be cleaned up a little and possibly serviced.
But it comes with everything, damper and mounting bracket. Here's a pic. (pic is missing the bracket that bolts on where the fairing stays and gas tank bolt on, but they're also included.)

holy fucking good buy!!!!!!!!!
Nice score.
You know MCwheel does a great job of making bent rotors straight again.
awesome, buddy of mine has the same one and loooooves it

I have one on my RC51 and one on my CBR....
The MV comes with a piston style Ohlins from the factory (it dosent do shit by the way)
To each his own, but I preffer piston style dampers. My Hyperpro RSC saved my ass a bunch of times on track and streetMaybe yours is not as good cause that Ohlins comes with the bike from factory instead of "real" aftermarket Ohlins damper
I know that's the case for some bikes.
BTW Chuck, nice score for cheap money! Hopefully it works![]()

They do wheels and rotors. I've had a few things done there and always been happy with their work.
Ohlins makes two different style piston dampers. They make a standard one and a race one. The standard one that is probably the one that is supplied on factory bikes like the MV. It doesnt have much adjustment at all throughout the range. The race one is a little different. I forget what the difference is. It either had an extra part inside or one less part. Pete could explain it. However the adjustment range is MUCH greater. If you want to compare come on down to the shop some time![]()
You are exactly correct. The ones supplied by the manufacturer are not at all the same as the 'aftermarket' Ohlins. The one I have on the bike dosent feel different from full soft to full hard.
Also, I much prefer the piston style dampers as far as looks go, its just that Ohlins no longer manufactures a mount kit for the RC51. I had no choice but to get the rotary style for that bike.
Union knows how I feel about that, his RC51 has the piston style, but he had to piece together 2 different kits to get it to work.
Also my track bike has the Scotts rotary style....it used to be Pete Kates bike, he built it, so it came that way...
Well since Degsy left you in the dark here...
What can happen with warped rotors is a few things.
First they can create hot spots on the rotor. As it rotates where it runs out it can contact the brake pad. This creates friction which creates heat in that part of the rotor while the rest of it is cooling down. This can lead to more warping.
You will also get unpredictable braking. Depending on how bad the rotor is warped it can push the pistons in the caliper back future then normal. Some of the bad ones Ive seen required two pulls on the brake lever to get some braking response. It can be quite scarey not having the brakes you expect when you looking for them.
It can also lead to premature pad wear and disc wear.
I got the same one. Sick damper.![]()
Does anyone happen to have a stepped link arm for a Scott rotary damper? I received the damper from the member on the other forum and he must have had the other type of fairing stay (there were 2 in '97) which required the flat link arm. Since the damper is probably close to a decade old, he didn't have the stepped link arm. I need to step it upwards, since the tower pin is upwards.
(otherwise, I have to order one from Scott for $40)
Here is the issue:
