So I'm looking for a new helmet after my accident and I found someone selling 2 new Corsairs for cheap somewhere (hmm where could that be). I had a profile before so I figured the corsair probably didn't fit too well. Well I went to try one on today and it didn't really feel that much different. I mean it felt like it fit me and it seemed snug everywhere. Isn't there a head shape difference between the two?
Am I weird for not noticing the difference? I mean I thought my RF1000 fit too but then after having it on sometimes after an hour it gave me a headache and left a redspot on my forehead.
Profile is a long-oval shape. Corsair is an intermediate oval...less "pointed" front and back than the profile, but not fully "round"
Check out this link for a good breakdown of the different shapes. Arai Helmets Size Guide for Arai Motorcycle Helmets
Ah shit. So am I weird that both seem to fit. Crap one has to fit and not the other lol.
Well...The Profile fits me perfect, however, I can try on a Corsair in the shop and it fits OK, especially in a small enough size if I'm looking at it as a race helmet (I like mine very tight).
Did you have them on back to back? Was one new and the other broken in? How long did you have them on? All of those factors will play into it.
I wore rounder shaped helmets for years until I went to the Profile. All of them were comfortable when I put them on and even left them on in the store for 20 or 30 minutes. However, after riding with them for a little while (hour or more), I would constantly get pressure on my forehead. Got to the point where I just assumed that was the norm. Now that I have the Profile, if I wear it and then change to one of my older helmets, I can feel the space on each side of my head where the helmet didn't contour right. It also meant that for a few years there I was wearing a helmet that was too big for me.
I would HIGHLY recommend going to a shop that knows their Arai's and get fitted properly. Moto Market in Acton, MA is fantastic, but that's a bit of a ride from Bolton. GixerJockey is in CT, and should be able to help you locally at his shop.
As a sizing frame of reference, the first helmet I bought (HJC) was a large. First time I rode on the highway I figured it was too big. Sold it and bought a Shoei RF-900 in Medium. Followed by 2 Scorpion EXO-700's in Medium, then 2 EXO-700's in Small. Now, I'm in the Profile in Small...with a thicker headliner! And I can wear this helmet all day without it being uncomfortable. Best helmet I've ever worn (for me at least). The shape and fit was key
Yeah like I said the RF1000 I had first felt ok but after about an hour I felt the pressure on my forehead. I think I got to try on a profile and maybe quantum II when I bought the profile I don't think they had any Corsairs in medium then. The profile fit well and I love it when I ride with it, but then I tried the corsair on tonight, but they didn't have a profile there in medium and the corsair felt ok too.
I forget where gixxerjockey works. I need to figure this out ASAP since I need the helmet for the 29th lol.
noel works at Connecticut Power & Sport in wallingford.
mike (mr kurtz) also carries them over at CycleGear in orange.
