VIDEO: TX driver says 'I don't care' following accident with mot - WTVM.com-Columbus, GA News Weather & Sports

That was pretty nauseating, my favorite qoute Jennifer Santoro "Both!! Both the bikers passing and riding recklessly and the old man for crossing the line and not looking. Horrible accident but it's people like those bikers who give genuine bikers a bad rap. Motorcycles are every where watch for them but it doesn't give them the right to drive like morons"
People are just fucking ridiculous!
I had a hard time picking the best of the "worst" comments. The overall attitude towards bikes (and by bikes I mean sport bikes) is despicable.
Wasp my ass.

I love the rage towards the bike for passing on the yellow without any on scene knowledge of what was going on. I read the chap in the white Mercury was slowing rapidly to about 20 below the limit then slowly accelerating. I don't know about TX, but in general I thought it was safe to pass on the double yellow if there was a dangerous situation and it was safe to do so. Couch commandos...
How does the Harley thuggish lifestyle get a pass but sport bikes get a bad rap?
doc's sport bikes suck!

I was kind of surprised to read this on Autoblog, and even the comments there were very incendiary. The very first comment I read was along the lines of "stupid reckless motorcycle rider riding over the double yellow".
You're seriously going to justify or disregard attempted murder because of a potentially illegal pass on a straightaway with plenty of visibility? And passing over a double yellow isn't even illegal everywhere.
It's pretty scary the amount of highway vigilantism people exhibit.

Just put the driver in the back of a van on the same road and kick his ass out the side door going the same speed as during the accident.
Film it for Jackass 10 and give the proceeds to the bike riders.
Done.
Someone tried to do that to me once, but it was on a road with no center lines, so it was in a legal passing zone. Amazing how reckless and dangerous some people can be behind the wheel.
Not going to address the other parts, but...
.. the bike could have easily prevented this by passing in the far left side of the passing lane.
This goes for everytime you go by someone... regardless of the direction.
Someone stopped on the side of my lane and no one in the other lane? I'm crossing the center line and giving a wide berth to the car stopped in my lane.
Someone coming the other way on a 2 lane road? I'm moving to the far right just before we cross paths.
Remember - always assume the other person will do the worst thing possible (as this dick did in the video).
Yes, you can feel good that you were "in the right" (after you get taken out) ... but I'd rather feel good by not going to the hospital.

I agree with you that the bike could have given a wider berth to the car but one of our fellow NESRians will tell you that you can be on the shoulder of the other side of the road when someone like this guy decides that they want to drive you off of the road and there is not a wide enough path to dodge them.
On a ride up near Mt Monadnock a few years back a local didn't like the fact that some riders tried to pass him and drove them all the way to the shoulder of the road to a complete stop. Got out of his vehicle and started yelling and screaming and eventually hitting one of the riders in the head with his fists. Didn't end as badly as this situation however it still didn't end well.
This type of clickbait is so intriguing to me. Why people love to read about and get fired up like this is so weird, and I'm just as guilty as everyone else most times.
Why is it so captivating?

It's 2 minutes for any capable adult.
"I don't care"...maybe the dumbest thing since Indy's fake punt play.
And am I the only one who things the guy doing the recording sound like, I don't know, maybe Clem Kadiddlehopper? I guess it's just a deep Texas accent but seriously....
Here's a high def, longer version than the one's I've seen earlier

These things go viral for the same reason mosh pits exist.
Hate in small doses can be cathartic.
This is why I pack 140 HP and "infinitely reduce" the ability of those would be jack asses to hit me by passing them before they even realize it. The poor chap in the video was going WAY too slow and effectively gave that idiot the opportunity to swerve.
And between this and all the distracted drivers out there it's another reason to keep it on the track. My only problem with that is that they (being bike haters) win and that doesn't sit well with me.
Finally the reason this is such a passionate topic is that we have all been in similar situations. I would love to know how many of you on this forum have never passed "illegally". Unfortunately this only furthers the mistrust and misperceptions about the bike community.
I've done it, but I don't make a habit of it. Not that I have a problem with the practice. I just don't personally feel the need to pass cars, as long as they're doing a decent speed. Not sure what I would have done in this case. If he really was doing 20 under the speed limit I likely would have passed him too. 20 under is way too unsafe to sit behind.
And you're right. While is clear this cager is a douche, most people who see this video will only see that the motorcycle was a "rice rocket" and did something illegal.![]()
