anybody out there have a duc?
Yup. 2008 Ducati 1098S here. Love it.
Congrats on your new ride. You will love the Ducati.
Shane
my first bike how bout you?
No. Definitely not my first bike. I can't believe you bought an 848 as a first bike. Its not really a good bike to learn on. Take it easy with it and enjoy it. Take the MSF course if you have not already.
Shane
why not a good bike to learn on? love the 1098s nice bike
First bikes shouldn't be 135HP Superbikes
I don't have a Ducati, but I've been known to ride them fairly often.
Congrats on the new 848. Great machine. One of my favourites in our lineup. Have quite a few miles on one including upcoming trackday at Sear's Point.
Take 'er easy.
Boston --> San Diego
2004 ST3 here, absolutely love it.
Most supersport bikes are not good beginner bikes. Your bike was designed for the race track and is very unforgiving to a new rider. It responds quickly to everything you do and can make a panic situation far worse without you knowing how to correct it. My advice would be to go to The Sportbike Network - Sportbikes.net and look in the new rider forums. Read the stickies. You will learn a lot about why people who have been riding for a while suggest starting small. In fact I wish the USA would adopt the graduated license system Europe has. It would breed far better riders in the long run.
Shane
Well typically people learn most from mistakes, and if you fuck up on that it will cost ya. Not to say you will, but ride with an open mind and take all the advice from others you can get. I'll start with 1) Always let your tires warm up before hammering the throttle 2) Avoid tar snakes, and if you have to hit them a 90 degree angle is usually best. There's plenty more advice I could give, but those may have been the two must understated when I first got into riding.
Also, don't try to "keep up" with more experienced riders when you are a beginner (and by beginner, i mean less miles than the others riding with you) - you will only find yourself in trouble.
after 2 weeks on a 250 ninja, i bought a Ducati. However mine was the smaller, air-cooled desmo...I miss that 750SS.
Congrats on the new bike, its been getting great reviews. Hope you get some nice weather soon.
I owned a 900ss. In my opinion one of the best overall bikes made. Travels well and can keep up with the fast folks. Good commuter and fun two up. if anyone knows of a 900ss or 748,916 Bip for sale please let me know.

Trevor is that you? I see you found the NESR website. Some people here are going to be beside themselves because you bought an 848 as a first bike. You'll also get 30 guys telling you to take the MSF course and wear all your gear you've gotta take with a fgrain of salt 50% of the posts on here. All in all a good bunch of people on here with a wealth of information. You should probably take an MSF course if you haven't already though. Looking forward to ride with you. Next time the wife and I'll go out I'll give you a ring. Private message me you Cell number, all I have is your home #.

Ducatis are overpriced bikes that break down on group rides.
Nice bike though.

I made the mistake of riding a 1995? 750SS. I fell in love with that machine, and would love to get my hands on one some day. Haven't tried the later style yet, dunno if I'd like them as much. The new Sport Classics feel great also, but in a completely different way.
Edit: I'll second the advice given earlier. Don't worry about trying to keep up. If you're riding with a good crew, everyone will run a pace they're comfortable with, and will wait for you at turns so you end up at the same destination as the rest of the group to bench race and tell lies. The MSF course is great for street marts training, along with good fundamental skills training that you generally don't just learn by riding. Track days let you explore those lessons in a safe environment amongst riders who will assist your development.
I like to sit on Ducati's and drool around them...but an 848 for your first!!!!
Thats like a 14 year old dating Porn Star!!!!
Sick bike though...I though I was crazy rockin an R6 as my first bike ever...

+1 Good luck bro... that's a LOT of bike with so little experience. Be safe.
If you're interested, I'll probably be leading a bunch of smaller group rides this year, suitable for all skill levels. If you're interested in riding with people that don't screw around (much) & have more experience that you can watch & learn from, by all means join us! I'd love to have ya.
Where are ya located?

Pete, as the wife and I were leaving Dennos house yesterday, after a long 3 hour ride, we pulled up at a light on rte 1 and this dude on a brand new 848 pulls up to us. We all pulled over and I grabbed his name and number and told him about NESR. His name is Trevor from N.Attleboro. I expect him on a few rides this year along with my wife. I like the idea about setting up a few "Slow, Beginner" rides this year for allot of the new faces on the board over the winter....( Mrs Naked included).
